O'HARA AND KERRIGAN SCORE CONSECUTIVE COLORADO WINS AT THE AHDRA ROCKY MOUNTAIN NITRO NATIONALS PRESENTED BY RIVERA ENGINEERING, PRIMO BELT DRIVES AND THE GATES RUBBER COMPANY

Winston-Salem, N.C., July 11, 2002- Fans at Bandimere Speedway were treated to a Canadian showdown in the JIMS Top Fuel final as AHDRA brought the Rocky Mountain Nitro Nationals presented by Rivera Engineering-Primo Belt Drives and The Gates Rubber Company through town.

Dave O'Hara of Mission, B.C. and fellow Canadian, Ron Houniet, wrapped up qualifying in the #1 and #2 spot, with a 7.139 for O'Hara and a 7.242 for Houniet.

The pair returned Sunday, to battle their way through a 16-bike field, setting up the all-Canadian final. O'Hara grabbed the quicker light for the advantage, but when traction failed both riders, it was a competition of skill as both fought to keep their nitro powered monsters in line. Houniet was first to pull out of it giving O'Hara the win with an 8.149 at 141.9 miles-per-hour over Houniet's 8.683 at 117.58 miles-per-hour. A sweet victory for O'Hara after scoring his first ever JIMS Top Fuel at last year's Bandimere event. O'Hara's win moved him into the National and Western division points lead with Houniet in at a close #2.

In another Denver repeat , Red Line Oil's, Tim Kerrigan (#3 qualifier) faced #1 qualifier, Mike Lehman (H-D of Palm Beach) in the Pro Fuel final. Lehman coming off a first Pro Fuel win in Ohio, missed out on a second win when Kerrigan's quicker .457 reaction and 8.048 lead to his win over Lehman's .568/8.293. Kerrigan kicked off a string of Pro Fuel wins at last year's Bandimere appearance that would eventually lead him to a National Point's Championship.

John Hammock of Tulsa, OK, took home the trophy "times two" after winning the Joker Machine Pro Modified and Pro Stock classes of competition. Hammock, the #1 qualifier in the Pro Mod category upset points leader, Mike Lozano in the semi's to face Madras, Oregon's, Cliff Dwy in the final. In Pro Stock, Hammock defeated Dano Manderfeld in the final round. In addition to the double win, Hammock finished with the Low ET's and Top Speed's in both classes as well.

"It's about time", a grateful Dave Boss commented after his first AHDRA Pro Gas win. Boss of Rosa, CA bested Russ Thomas for the victory at Bandimere Speedway. Boss and the Rose City Cycle team took home #1 qualifying honors in addition to the Top Speed of 155.81 miles-per-hour.

Travis Lummus of Asheville, NC continues his Spkye Street Pro domination after a win over Randy Borho in the final. Lummus, the #1 qualifier is in his 3rd year of competition with AHDRA and holds the Championship title 2 years running. A third point's title is on the horizon as his point's lead took another a forward in Denver.

A decent crowd and great competition made the Rocky Mountain Nitro Nationals presented by Rivera Engineering, Primo Belt Drives & The Gates Rubber Company a success. Thanks to Rivera-Primo and The Gates Rubber Company and the many supporting sponsors for making this a fun, safe weekend for everyone.
