Mark Cox Racing Reunites with Bojangles
Four Races Planned in Pro Drag Class
Former AHDRA Pro Dragster National champion Mark Cox is returning to his roots to race in four upcoming Pro Drag races between April and October 2011. Cox is reuniting with sponsor, Bojangles' Restaurants, to carry the familiar yellow, red and black livery on a Hawaya Racing Pro Dragster promoting "It's Bo Time!"
Cox, who is one of the few members of the elite "over 200 mph in under seven seconds" club of Harley racers, will drive a Hawaya Racing Pro Drag bike built by Johnny Vickers, a motorcycle prep master based in Millers Creek, North Carolina.
The racing schedule will include one Manufacturer's Cup race on April 8-10 in Valdosta, Ga. and three All-Harley Drag Race Association events on April 30-May 1 in Rockingham, N.C.; August 5-6 in Bristol, Tenn. and October 9-10 in Rockingham, N.C.
"It is going to be great to get back in the seat racing again with Johnny and Bojangles' , said Cox, a former Top Fuel winner. "We had a very successful program many years ago and I always enjoyed working with their great staff and promoting their quality brand."
"Going back to my roots to ride a Pro Drag bike prepared by Johnny Vickers is a great opportunity, added Cox". "Johnny and I have worked together for many years and I know that he only builds first class equipment. I'm proud to ride another Hawaya Racing-prepared bike and offer Johnny rider feedback on his new technology and promote his Nitro Drag Bike School."
"Both Mark and I were really pleased when this deal came together because it is win-win for everyone," said Johnny Vickers, who spearheaded Mark Cox's drive to numerous Top Fuel and Pro Drag victories. "Mark has wanted to get back on a race bike, we are looking to promote our new Nitro Drag Bike School and try out some new technology on the racing front and Bojangles' was ready to renew a good marketing relationship in their demographic. We have continued to develop new technology in drag racing bikes and this program also allows us to step up some of that technology with Mark."
"We always enjoyed working with Mark Cox Racing and we did a lot of great promotions together for Bojangles over the years. When Mark presented this racing opportunity to us, we just couldn't pass it up," said Mr. Randy Poindexter, Sr. V.P. Marketing, Bojangles' Restaurants, Inc. "Bojangles has grown rapidly over the past decade and now has nearly 500 locations in 10 states, mostly in the Southeast. Mark will be racing in Georgia, North Carolina and Tennessee, all part of our core demographic. We have fond memories of being involved with Mark and Harley drag racing several years ago and we look forward to creating some new memories and opportunities this year."
The Valdosta Manufacturer's Spring Nationals race will be held at South Georgia Motorsports Park in Adel, Georgia (near Valdosta) on April 8-10. Test and Tune, followed by qualifying will be held on Friday, all qualifying on Saturday and final eliminations on Sunday. The AHDRA Carolina Spring Nitro Nationals presented by Carolina Harley Davidson Dealers Association will take place at Rockingham Dragway in Rockingham, N.C. on April 30-May 1 and is part of the Screaming Eagle Championship Series. The Thunder in the Valley Nationals will return to Bristol Dragway in Bristol, Tenn. on August 5-6 under the lights and is also an AHDRA Screaming Eagle Championship race. The Jim McClure Nitro Nationals, named for the 19 time Top Fuel championship legend will be held on October 8-9. The final event on the schedule will again be held at the track Mark Cox considers his home track, Rockingham Dragway.
