WINSTON-SALEM, NC, January 14, 2008 - AHDRA headquarters is busy with all the pre-season preparations involved with the 2008 season opener in Gainesville, FL.
The Screamin' Eagle Performance Parts Nationals Presented by Gainesville Harley-Davidson will take the track on Friday, February 29th, and continue until Sunday, March 2nd, at Gainesville Raceway.
AHDRA is bringing back the three-day format for the season opener with expectations of a large contingent of racers who are eager to return to quarter-mile action.
Gainesville Raceway is geared up for the excitement as well and will be sporting a lot of new and improved highlights at the facility, including a brand-new timing tower and more fresh paving in the staging lanes.
The facility is also installing fiber optic lines for the computer timing system. This eliminates the risks to the tower equipment in the surrounding areas when threatening weather arises. Track manager Don Robertson says that computers and timing equipment have had to be shut down and unplugged in the past with lightning miles away from the track. "Things would be all clear here at the track, but because of just threats of lightning approaching, extra precautions had to be taken to protect the sensitive timing equipment," he explained. "With the fiber optic lines, we are guarded against those same types of risks."
Robertson says they expect the track renovations to be completed by February 14th, 2008.
In the past, AHDRA has come away from the popular facility with many new national records. The 2008 season opener should bring about more of those chart-breaking numbers on the well-groomed track.
Screamin' Eagle Performance Parts leads off the 2008 season as the title sponsor in Gainesville, joined by Gainesville Harley-Davidson as the presenting sponsor.
Gainesville Harley-Davidson will host a huge Nitro Party on Friday, February 29th, on site at the track. Last year's party was a tremendous success with food, beverages, live music, bike displays, and more. The dealership will bring it all back for another exciting pre-race celebration starting at 4:00 p.m. and continuing until 9:00 p.m.
Fans can pick up special coupons at Gainesville Harley-Davidson for free admission to the Nitro Party at Gainesville Raceway; the coupon includes free admission to Friday night's AHDRA qualifying session. Friday admission for spectators without the coupon is $15. The dealership will also have discount tickets available for purchase for racing on Saturday and Sunday. Racing gets under way at the Screamin' Eagle Performance Parts Nationals Presented by Gainesville Harley-Davidson with a qualifying session for all racers on Friday, February 29th, beginning at 4:00 p.m.
On Saturday, March 1st, qualifying continues, with eliminations beginning on Sunday, March 2nd. Racing gets under way on both days at 9:00 a.m.
Admission is $50 for a weekend pass or $30 for a single day. The admission price includes pit access. H.O.G. members receive a $5 discount with a valid H.O.G. card. Admission is free for children 11 and under, and AHDRA offers free admission to active and reserve military personnel with valid identification.
