Jay Turner does it again and repeats his 2006 honor...a double header..here at Virginia Motorsports Park-the S & S Jim McClure Nationals..Jay Turner takes the prize in both Top Fuel and Pro Fuel.

Turner took the win on the Mancuso Harley-Davidson ride after Malloy unfortunately had problems in the box and was unable to race with Turner.

 

S & S Pro Stock

James Surber who made it to double finals here this weekend gets the win over David Poague in the final.

 

JIMS Pro Fuel

Jay Turner and Armon Furr..doesnÕt get any better than this match-upÉand Turner gets this win and will make a quick run back up the return road as he goes for a double win here! 

 

Rush Performance Pro Gas

Dale Raudenbush gets the win on a solo final after his would-be opponent Mike Nelson broke in the semiÕs.

 

Kresto Pro Drag

Greg Byrnes and 71 year-old Sonny Burres pair up and Burres gives it away with a red light and gives the 1-Eagle team a win here at VMP!

 

Samson Pro Modified

Randy Borho and Greg Kuypers-and itÕs Borho with the win!

 

McCaaÕs Enterprises Street Pro

Andy Simon returns to the winner circle after a break from racing action after a win over Zach Johnson.

 

ScreaminÕ Eagle V-Rod & SSC 124 Challenge

Lou Gerencer takes the V-Rod win after a red light from Edmondson and Gerencer is a double winner after a win over Mike Roberts is SSC 124 Challenge.

Gary Moreno is the winner over James Surber

Dave Israel clocks a 10.300mto seal this win against Charley Douglass.

 

Pingel Enterprise Super Eliminator

Jimmy McMillan and Kevin Winters pair up and Kevin Winters takes the win.

Joey Talbott gets the win light over Dan Norlin.

 

DragMasters Hot Street

Richard Gadson wins over Charles Cannon.  If you check the ladder pages, you will see Gadson has been running record numbers this weekend and he does it again in the final (9.92).  Records are pending tech verification.

Wanda Poff reports in broke and misses her final and L.E. Tonglet takes another win!

Andy Simon is back and he will take on the pointÕs leader Zach Johnson in todayÕs final!  Simon ran a 8.81 at 153mph to win over Bruce Croneberger and Johnson advanced with a 9.05 at 151mph on a bye run.

 

Samson Pro Modified

Randy Borho will head to the final against Greg Kuypers in Pro Mod racing today.

Borho advanced over Donnie Huffman with a 8.69 at 151mph to a 8.98 at 146mph from Huffman.  Kuypers advance on the bye.

 

Kresto Pro Drag

Sonny Burres heads to the final here at VMP after a win over Larson in the semiÕs and he will take on Greg Byrnes who took the upset win over a troubled run from the Champ-Rick Moore.

 

Rush Performance Pro Gas

Rick Moore and Dale Raudenbush pair up and Raudenbush advances on a holeshot over #1 qualifyer Moore.  Raudenbush will only have to break the beam for the win after Erik Nelson was unable to fire on his bye run and will miss his free ride to the final.

 

JIMS Pro Fuel

Armon Furr and John Breckenridge:    Furr runs a 6.70 at 205mph to a 7.71 at 191mph from Breckenridge and the Champ (Furr) will head to the final.  Stay tuned to see who he will take on in that finalÉJay Turner could make double finals here at the Jim McClure Nationals with a win over Billy LeonardÉand he does it..Turner makes it to the finals in both Top Fuel and Pro Fuel for the 2nd consecutive year at Virginia Motorsports Park!  McClure would certainly approve!

 

 

S & S Pro Stock

David Poague goes to his first final in Pro Stock competition!!  Poague wins the round with a 8.39 while his opponent, David Hope had problems on the run.

Poague will take on James Surber in the final after Surber defeated Krenik with a 8.28 to a 8.46 from Krenik.  The two were off with close reactions and it was Surber pulling ahead for the win light.

 

ScreaminÕ Eagle Top Fuel

Shigematsu and Malloy:

Malloy runs best of weekend 6.45 at 205mph to a 6.62 at 215mph from Shigematsu and itÕs Malloy ending the pointÕs leaderÕs chance at a 3-peat of wins.

 

Dorn and Turner:

Malloy will take on Jay Turner in the final today after Turner runs a 6.53/214mph to win the round over Steve DornÕs 6.73 at 209mph.

Good afternoon from a warm day of eliminationÕs at the S & S Jim McClure Nationals presented by Colonial Harley-Davidson.

 

Opening rounds for all classes still underway and we will be heading into Top Fuel round two action around 3:00pm.  TodayÕs Top Fuel opener was full of plenty of excitement and it was all led off by Phyllis McClure giving the Òfire em upÓ call!

If you check out the ladder page for Pro Fuel, you are not seeing things..and Stephanie didnÕt make a typo..Armon Furr repeated his 6.666 that he ran in yesterdayÕs qualifying.  That certainly drew a few oohs and aahs from the crowd.

Good morning from VMP for the S & S Jim McClure Nationals Presented by Colonial Harley-Davidson!  The sun is shining with warm skies as the stage is set to honor the 19-time champ- ÒDa JudgeÓ with great racing today!

 

Early eliminations are underway to narrow the sportsman categories and we will then begin todayÕs opening ceremonies at 12:45pm with a special tribute to Jim McClure and a special ÒLightemÕ UpÓ signal from Phyllis McClure to begin todayÕs show!

Rucker Performance Super Gas

Terry Tripp keeps the top spot with the 9.701, but he wasnÕt short on guys trying to catch him..check out the 9.70 index class top four..James Surber jumps to #2 with a 9.702, Frank Genzale geets a 9.702 (#3) and Jim Sweet gets a 9.702 (#4)!

 

 

ScreaminÕ Eagle V-Rod

The top three stays the same in this field with no improvement on the clocks.  Lou Gerencer, Larry Edmondson Jr and Mike Roberts make up that top three!

 

S & S Super Sport

David Doremus stays #1 with his 10.311 best.  Dave Israel is 2nd with his earlier 10.314 and Danny Boyer stays 3rd with his 10.315. 

 

S & S 124

No changes to this order at all.  Mike Robert stays #1 all day (9.22) and Gerencer stays 2nd (9.705).  Chris Sansevere is 3rd with a 9.76 for the day.

 

Pingel Enterprise Super Eliminator

John Price took the #1 spot in the opening round with a 10.904 and holds on to it all day and Dwight Cass stays 2nd with a 10.905 best.  Jimmy McMillan moves from 12 to 3 with a 10.907 which moved John Kreckman and Nate Carnahan to 4th and 5th.

 

Drag Masters Hot Street

Bruce Croneberger stays #1 (10.080) and Richard Gadson makes the move from the bottom of the pack to the #2 spot with a 10.234 best in the final lap.

Charles Cannon is now 3rd (10.253).

 

SEP

Dan Norlin holds on to his #1 spot with his 11.505 and check out local Nate Carnahan- he clocks a 11.506 and moves from #9 to #2 and Robert Muller is 3rd with his earlier 11.507 best!

 

ScreaminÕ Eagle Destroyer

L.E. Tonglet doesnÕt improve in the final lap but he is still the top qualifyer with his 9.25 best.  Valerie Thompson stays 2nd with a 9.31 and Julia Holliday runs her best of the day in the final (9.31) and keeps her #3 spot.  Brian Fox gets his best number(9.35) and jumps up to #4.

 

 

Syn3 ET

No one touches the perfect 000Õs of Ben Futushima and Bryan Lewallen and they stay #1 and #2.  Dan Norlin comes out with a .002 and he is 3rd in the order and Jimmy McMillan goes to #4 at the end of the day.

Whoa..what a round that was.  Shigematsu takes charge with a 6.46 at 214mph and Jay Turner answers with a 6.49 to make them #1 and #2 at the end of the day.

Dorn clocks a 6.53 best of the day and finishes the day 3rd and Malloy is now 4th with his 6.54. Vancil gets a 6.57 and Phil Schmidt clocks a 6.59!  Check out the order on the result pages shortly after this exciting round under the lights at VMP!

 

S & S Pro Stock

Junior Pippin the #1 man with his 8.19 best and Greg Krenik is #2 with a 8.28 .  Beltramini stays 3rd with a 8.29 best of the day! David Poague clocks his best of the day (8.32) and he finishes the day with an improved 4th position.

 

JIMS Pro Fuel

Jay ÒThe BulldogÓ Turner takes over the pole position in the final lap with a 6.65 to better Armon FurrÕs 6.66.  Furr missed his last chance to take the spot back from Turner after problems firing.    Douglas Horne threw away a 6.78 after taking out the foam block and finishes the day in the 5th spot.

 

Rush Pro Gas

Rick Moore maintains #1 and takes the starting line as the top qualifyer in double categories tomorrow.  Mike Nelson finished the day in the #2 spot with a 7.86 and Lee Hitz was 3rd with a 8.79 best.  Dale Raudenbush is 4th with a 9.06 and Keith Williams is 5th with a 10.35 best.

 

Kresto Pro Drag

Rick Moore is #1 for the day with his 7.365 best and Sonny Burres stays number 2 with his 7.54 best of the day.  David Larson enters the field successfully in the final round and takes the # 3rd spot with a 8.10 and Greg Byrnes moves to the 4th spot with his 8.15 best.

 

Samson Pro Modified

Krenik stays #1 with his best shot of the day (8.680) while Borho improves to a 8.78 to stay 2nd.   Tom Hannum lays down his best number of the day (8.89) and goes from 5th to 3rd and it was a best shot of the day for Greg Kuypers (8.90) to finish the day in the 4th spot.

 

McCaaÕs Enterprises Street Pro

Andy Simon takes a wild one wheel ride in the final lap and does not better his 8.73 but is still #1.  Zach Johnson runs his best of the day (8.90) and stays #2.  Danny Worth clocks his best of the day (8.98) and stays 3rd.  Bruce Croneberger joins them in getting his best of the day too (9.41) and remains 4th and Junior Tillman stays 5th with his 10.48 best.

 

Sportsman Round #2

Rucker Performance Super Gas

Terry Tripp still leads the pack with his 9.701 and Jim Sweet is trying to catch him with a 9.702 pass in the 2nd round that moved him from 23rd up to the #2 spot!  Mike Fitzgerald is now 3rd.   (Hi Sue- Brodie is having a good time)

 

ScreaminÕ Eagle V-Rod

Lou Gerencer stays #1 with his earlier 9.420 and Larry Edmondson is now 2nd with a 9.61 moving Mike Roberts to 3rd with a 9.68 best.

 

S & S Super Sport

David Doremus grabs the #1 spot from Danny Boyer with a 10.311 and Dave Israel is in the 2nd spot with a 10.314 and the former leader Boyer is 3rd with his 10.315.

 

Pingel Enterprise Super Eliminator

John Price from Emmitsburg, MD and a few other new names are giving all the front runners a challenge today with a 10.904 in the opening lap keeping Price in the #1 spot.  Dwight Cass of Union Grove, NC came out in round two with a 10.905 for the 2nd spot and John Kreckman of Rochester, NY clocks a 10.908 for the 3rd spot.

Local favorite, Nate Carnahan also gets a 10.908 and is in 4th while the top dog in the category, Dean Druschel improves with a 10.912 and moves to 5th from his earlier 14th spot.

 

S & S 124

Mike Roberts stays #1 (9.220) and Gerencer improves (9.705) and stays #2.  Chris Sansevere picks up the pace with a 9.761 (from a 9.767) and is still 3rd.

 

Drag Masters Hot Street

Bruce Croneberger is still on top and goes quicker with a 10.080 this time.  Charles Cannon stays 2nd and goes quicker as well (10.262) and Dan Norlin improves(10.303) and goes from 5th to 3rd.

 

SEP

Dan Norlin is still #1 with his 11.505 and now Robert ÒNoodlesÓ Muller has moved from 25th all the way up to #2 after a 11.507 in the 2nd round.  Bill Rowe Jr. is now 3rd and Charlie Walker is now 4th.

 

ScreaminÕ Eagle V-Rod Destroyer

L.E. Tonglet goes 9.25 improving the 9.29 from round one and stays in the top spot.  Valerie Thompson keeps her 9.31 best for the 2nd spot while Julia Holliday improves her number (9.32) and is still 3rd.  Douglas Horne appeared to give up his 4th position to Nick Gonatas, but an error by the starter determined that Horne should be awarded a re-run and he will be back later to jockey for his top 4 spot.

 

 

Syn3 ET- Ben Futushima of Harrisonburg, VA and Bryan Lewallen of Decutar, IL clock perfect .000Õs for the #1 and #2 spot and Jimmy McMillan is 3rd with a .004 in a field that has 57 entries so far.

Bob Malloy takes over the #1 spot with a 6.540 and Shigematsu is now 2nd.  Comunal is 3rd. There are still several more pairs to go but we are on a short hold while they check the track for possible oil.  Stay tuned for the numbers from todayÕs 2nd session soon!

 

S & S Pro Stock

Junior Pippin still on top of the leader board after a 8.196 from round one and Greg Krenik hangs on to his 8.28 best for #2.  Bruce Beltramini improves with a 8.29 and stays #3.

 

JIMS Pro Fuel

Douglas Horne moves up from #8 to #4 with a better 7.047.  Chris Streeter gets down the track and in the field with a 7.41 after problems in round one.  John Breckenridge had to shut off in the box and moves from #6 to #8.  Furr, Turner and Leonard are still the top three while Steve Simmons and Andy Baumbach are looking at one last chance round to make the field.

 

Rush Performance Pro Gas

** Correction from earlier post:  Mike Nelson entered a new bike in round two-so his earlier pass was voided.  He is actually now 2nd with a 8.109 best. And Rick Moore is #1 with a 7.730.

 Lee Hitz improves (8.84) and keeps the third spot and Dale Raudenbush comes out for the 2nd round to take the 4th spot (9.06) and Keith Williams is now 5th.

 

Kresto Pro Drag

No big changes here either as the leaders do not improve.  Burres has problems at the big end and earns a DQ after crossing lanes.

 

Samson Pro Modified

No changes to the order after Borho slows in the 2nd round and pointÕs leader, Krenik has problems and is all over the track.   Krenik stays #1 with his earlier 8.68 and Borho stays #2 with the 8.79.

 

McCaaÕs Enterprises Street Pro

Andy Simon improves in the 2nd lap (8.73) to hold on to his top spot.  Zach Johnson slowed after losing a kick stand at the launch and stays #2.  Danny Worth is 3rd (9.210)  followed by Bruce Croneberger and Junior Tillman making up the 4th & 5th spots.

Pro Qualifying Round Two in the lanes!

The ProÕs have wrapped up their opening session and the Sportsman classes are in the lanes for qualifying lap #1.

 

In ScreaminÕ Eagle Top Fuel- Tak Shigematsu is after a 3-peat of wins and extra padding to his current pointÕs lead.  He came out strong today with a 6.56 at 212mph for the top spot while Dean Comunal followed with a 6.62 at 210mph.  Thirteen bikes made the first round line-up with Doug Vancil not on the list yet after losing a chain on his first attempt.

 

In JIMS Pro Fuel, Armon Furr and Jay Turner are #1 and #2 with FurrÕs 6.666 lighting the boards for his opener while Turner clocked a 6.86.

 

In McCaaÕs Enterprises Street Pro, Andy Simon is back.  He came off the trailer with a 8.96 at 152mph for the #1 spot, while pointÕs leader, Zach Johnson was close to his number with a 8.98 at 152mph for the 2nd spot.

 

Check out all the numbers from todayÕs opening round of the ProÕs on the result pages.  The next round of the ProÕs are due out at approx 2:30pm.

We fired up 12noon on the nose after several hours of drying the track from last nightÕs rain showers and the 2nd pair out and we have oil!  The track crew is on it-and we will return to racing shortly.    Stay tuned for qualifying numbers today on the result pages and we will check back in here with any updates or breaking news.

The sun is making itÕs appearance and will speed things up for us in the track drying process, so we look to be up and running within the hour.  Estimated time 12noon.  When we fire up to day, we will lead off with the ProÕs!

Good morning from Virginia Motorsports Park for the 2nd Annual S & S Jim McClure Nationals!

 

The skies are cloudy and early morning fog is lifting with muggy air and with a forecast of mid 80Õd today.

Unfortunately due to showers last night, we are dealing with a wet track surface this morning that VMP track officials are feverishly working to get in race-ready condition. 

 

Latest reports from the track operator are that we could be delayed an hour or even more unless the sun peeks through to help us out.

 

With that said- stay tuned for updates on track conditions as we stand by to fire em up!!
