Shigematsu advances with the 6.40.
Round one
continues here at Gateway IntÕl Raceway and Stephanie will bring you the
results from all the rounds as quick as her fingers can click those number
keys..and thatÕs pretty darn fast!
Breaking
news in Rush Pro Fuel-
Eliminations underway and not only will Shigematsu be
looking to back up his 6.56 record from yesterday, but John Breckenridge just

with Shigematsu is in the 4th spot with a 6.54 at 215mph best pass
in the 3rd round. The

Fuel..
Wow!! Tak Shigematsu comes out on the bike
heÕs testing for owner, David Poague and clocks a national (ET) record pass
-6.56 at 212mph! The current
record (6.58) is held by Jay Turner and was set in Gainesville in 2007. Do you think David Poague is happy with
his new Pro Fuel bike?? From his
reaction on the starting line after seeing the bike (that he will eventually
take over the riding seat on) run a record breaking pass- thatÕs a big YES!
Shigematsu
takes over the #1 spot on that incredible pass and Douglas Hornes moves to
#2. John Breckenridge ran his best

Tonglet-9.203 from Douglas Horne gives him the 3rd spot. Wanda Poff
keeps her 4th spot with a 9.29 best.
SEP
If thereÕs
anyone that can give Dan Norlin a run for the money- it is Donnie Huffman-a
2-time champion in the class!
Huffman snatched NorlinÕs #1 spot in the final round with a 11.503. Norlin is now 2nd with a
11.510 and then itÕs Dana Housaman having a terrific weekend here with a 11.510

Eagle Top Fuel Round #2
Tak
Shigematsu is the last bike out and he makes it count when he rips down the
track with a 6.39 at 223mph! Mike
Romine held the #1 spot briefly when he clocked a 6.60 at 223mph. Vancil who was the round one leader
displayed his riding talents in the 2nd round when he got close to
the retaining wall and used his leaning skills to pull away.
HeÕs now 3rd
with his round #1- 6.63 at 218mph.
Still
trying to get in the field is Jack Romine and Tommy Grimes..they have one shot
left!
S & S
Pro Stock Round #2
Shaun Reno
didnÕt improve, but kept his #1 spot with his 8.17, but Eddie Lee showed great
improvement and jumped from #4 to #2 with a better 8.24 to take over the #2
spot from Bruce Beltramini who is now 3rd.
Rush Pro
Fuel Round #2
Douglas
Horne continues taking the field by storm-going faster-6.64 in round #2 to stay
on top. Taking over the #2 spot
was Tak Shigematsu with a 6.68 at 195mph.
Shigematsu entered the Pro Fuel field on a bike recently purchased by
AHDRA regular, David Poague.
Poague, a former national champion and a competitor in several Pro
classes, has focused his racing efforts on riding a Pro Fuel bike under the
tuning direction of DJ Johnson.
With little seat time on the bike, Poague put a seasoned veteran on the
bike for testing this weekend and it appears the bike along with the rider are
making the grade so far!
Chris
Streeter struggled in round #1 but recovers in the 2nd round with a
6.91 at 201mph for the #3 spot.
Jay Turner skipped the opening round but comes out in the 2nd
round with a 7.12 at 195mph and heÕs now #4 in the field.
John
Breckenridge took a scary ride towards the wall but gets it straigt in time for
a 7.323 to get in the field (#6) in front of #5 qualifyer, Joe Timmons (7.15).
Rush Pro
Gas Round #2
David Hope
goes faster to improve his score (7.16/184mph) and stay #1 in the field.
Dale
Raudenbush struggled in the opening round and shut off at the tree, but gets it
down the track in round two with a 7.39 at 175mph to take the #2 spot.
Mike
Lozano gets in a wild wobble at the launch in round two and slows to a coast.
He needs a
good pass in the 3rd round to get in the field.
AHDRA Pro
Modified Round #2
No
improvement for Greg Krenik, but he stays #1, while Randy Borho improves
slightly- from a 8.76 to an 8.74 and stays #2.

SEP-Round
#2
Dan Norlin
matches Nate CarnahanÕs round one 11.510 and a better mph at 116mph and takes
over the #1 spot. Norlin who says
he is limiting his appearances this year is continuing his remarkable consistency
early in the season-with two final round appearances in Arizona-resulting in
one win and one runner-up. HeÕs
the #1 qualifyer in SEP after 2 rounds here so far. Read more about NorlinÕs win in Arizona and how he does it

A brief delay in the round when Steve
Simmons riding the Ray Price H-D bike goes left and crosses the centerline in
front of Bill Furr and takes two cones with him. No one was hurt and as a result of Simmons interruption of
FurrÕs pass- Furr will have the option of a re-run. Check out the final order from this round on the result

Syn 3 ET News
For the 2nd consecutive event a female rider in the class has clocked the magic triple zero reaction time. In Arizona, it was Juls Prince, and here in Madison, IL at the Gypsy Rendezvous Nationals, it was Dana Housaman coming out in round No. 1 with the perfect .000 reaction for the current #1 spot. Local favorite, Andy Horn (St. Louis, MO)
was close to perfection himself with a .002 and Dale Nilles is currently 3rd in the Syn3 ET qualifying order with a .006.
11:35am
The track

GROUND POUNDING ACTION HITS GATEWAY INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY
BEFORE RACING EVEN STARTS!
AHDRAÕs Gypsy
Rendezvous Nationals Begin Tomorrow and Continue on Sunday.
MADISON, IL, April 18,
2008-The All Harley Drag Racing Association (AHDRA) staff along with many of
their racers competing at this weekendÕs event in Madison, IL arrived in town
yesterday in preparation for the Gypsy Rendezvous Nationals at Gateway
International Raceway.
Things proceeded routinely during pre-event set-up throughout the day
and into the evening at the 3rd national points race of AHDRAÕs 2008
season, but at 4.40am this morning the rumblings from a 5.2 earthquake were far
from any normal routine.
While many were tucked in for
the night at hotels in the surrounding areas, others were camping in motor
homes in the early bird line-up formed at the entrance of Gateway International
Raceway. Some slept right through
the powerful, but brief Òshake-rattle and rollÓ from the earthquake that was over 100 miles from St,
Louis, MO., but for others it was a startling 20 seconds that left many
wondering if the entire field of Top Fuel bikes had fired up early!
Earlier today the first and
only aftershock (that we have felt) here at Gateway IntÕl Raceway shook the
race control tower for a few seconds, but since then, it has remained
calm. Rain showers have currently
taken over and the radar indicates that the rain will remain throughout the
evening-so tonightÕs test and tune has been canceled. TomorrowÕs forecast shows clearing late morning-and plenty
of sunshine and nice temperatures to follow throughout Sunday for an exciting
weekend of racing.
Saturday, all sixteen classes
will take the track for three qualifying sessions each beginning at 9:00am. On Sunday, eliminations begin for the
sportsman classes at 9:00am and the ProÕs take the track at 12:30pm.
