1:10pm-We are fired up and racing here at Gateway, and the track is doing its job so far.

The slowest ÒwinningÓ time recorded was a 6.742 on a bye from Mike Lehman.  Other than that- it was a slew of 50Õs in todayÕs opener.  Follow the ladders today on the live update pages here on www.ahdra.com.

Good morning from Gateway IntÕl Raceway and the Surdyke Midwest Nationals Presented by Drag Specialties.  The skies are full of sunshine and temperatures are nice,

We are set to begin with a few rounds of sportsman classes this morning to narrow the fields to sixteen or less before todayÕs opening round.

TodayÕ s opening ceremonies are special to all the top qualifiers this weekend but for at least 4 of those with #1 honors, the occasion is extra special.  Unofficially named the ÒFab 4Ó yesterday, Donnie Huffman, Dan DeGood, and Charlie & Eleanor Walker managed to each grab a #1 spot in one of their respective categories.  Not only is it a special occasion to have the close pit-mates out there today, ItÕs a first husband-wife pairing for #1 qualifier honors and Òa great way to celebrate my birthdayÓ Eleanor said last night.

Coming up in todayÕs opening round in ScreaminÕ Eagle Nitro Harley- the battle for the points standings continues as Doug Vancil, Mike Romine and Mike Lehman go at it for the #1 spot that has seen leader changes all year.  Lehman starts out with a bye today, after his #1 qualifying finish yesterday with a 6.631 best.

Doug Vancil was the #4 qualifier and his day will start paired with Steve Moore, the #13 qualifier.  VancilÕs best time was a 6.653 in yesterdayÕs 3 rounds.

Mike Romine was the #3 qualifier with a 6.645 best and he grabbed the top speed of the meet so far, with a blazing 219.54mph lap.  Crew chief, Patti Romine says they had a little trouble staying consistent after the round one lap, (the best of the three), but appeared confident that they will work it out before todayÕs eliminations.

Patti sends a special loving hello to her mother, Virginia Couch, watching the results here on the live update pages.

Tak Shigematsu also didnÕt improve after his round one best lap at 6.640, but it was good enough to put him in the #2 spot heading into todayÕs show and he will start the day paired with Mike Bahnmaier, the #15 qualifier.

Stay tuned for all the news and results from todayÕs show after the opening rounds, beginning at 12:30pm.

5:50pm

Qualifying complete in St. Louis and we are getting the final numbers updated for you and they will be posted shortly.  Thanks for joining us for todayÕs result coverage of the Surdyke Midwest Nationals.  TomorrowÕs show gets underway with early sportsman rounds at 9:30am and opening ceremonies are at 12:15pm.

Good night from Gateway IntÕl Raceway.

4:00pm

Everyone gets in a round two run and todays final round set to begin shortly.  The 3rd and final round today will work much like the 2nd- ET & SEP and X-Mod will run and then itÕs back to the Pros.

In the sportsman round two rounds Charlie Walker has the S & S Super Sport top spot with a 10.303 and his better-half, Eleanor- who is celebrating a birthday here in St. Louis is the #1 qualifier after 2 rounds in Performance Corner Super Eliminator with a 10.920.

The Walkers, Degoods and Huffmans are well known travel and pit mates and four of them now hold the lead spot in qualifying after a pair of rounds.  We will see how the ÒFab-4Ó finishes after todayÕs last session.

Moe from the sportsman highlights- Dave Ostrowske is holding firmly in the Rucker Performance Super Gas standings today with a perfect 9.700 with one more round to go!

The GMA X-Mod class wrapped up their final round today, and a couple of names missing from the final round line-up are Dan Hope and Bill Gardner.  Gardner, we understand has problems with the bike, and his round one pass was deleted for missing the scales- Hope also missed the scales. (Not intentionally)  This is a trial class for a possible new class in the future, so if it does make it, the routine of stopping at the scales will have to be introduced to those not accustomed to it.

HereÕs the final round order:

Randy Borho               8.909   145.72

Lauren Long                9.050   141.97

Donnie Huffman         9.060   149.86

2:50pm

Round Two Qualifying Update-

ScreaminÕ Eagle Nitro Harleys just completed 2nd session of qualifying and Mike Lehman keeps his tp spot.  The track was not as generous in the 2nd round, with lots of smoke from the tires.

Jay Turner skipped the 2nd round of JIMS Pro Fuel and maintained the lead with is round one 6.661, while Lehman is in the 2nd spot with a 6.889. Chris Streeter improved with a 6.900 and has the #3 spot.

In G2 Street Pro Zach Johnson slowed in the 2nd round while Lummus found the 8 second zone.  Johnson still has the #1 spot with a 8.960 to a 8.962 from Lummus.

In the only 2 sportsman classes that have run 2nd round as of now, Dan DeGood snatched the #1 SEP spot from former leader, Donnie Huffman, but Huffman prevailed in SYN3ET with a .002 reaction for the #1 spot there, with one lap left today.

Drag Masters Hot Street is on the track now as we pick back up where we left off with sportsman qualifying.  Stay tuned for more numbers from Gateway International Raceway.

1:05pm
