6:31pm

We have wrapped up a Ōbarn burnerĶ (in the words of Craig Tharpe)!!

The weekend was full of great weather..great competition..PLENTY of new National records and a turnout we can all be proud of!

With all of the records set this weekend, I am sure I may have overlooked mentioning a few in my reports, with the huge fields of results to follow, but following time slip verifications, etc, we will file official numbers on all the new records set here in Rockingham next week!

IÕll be back to close out the season here on Live Updates November 11th & 12th in Vegas!

Good night from Rockingham Dragway.

5:30pm

Finals underway in all classes.  We will catch the ladders up for you following the big finish!!

4:00pm-

Did you think we were through reporting records?  Not yet!!

Doug Vancil just RE-SET the record with a 6.23 in the semiÕs-

but a quicker reaction from Jay Turner, gave Jay the holeshot win.

Vancil-  .235  6.236  218.62

Turner- .101  6.310  217.35

Romine had it tough when a new record had him qualified 3rd- how about getting a new record but losing the round?  ŌThatÕs RacingĶ they say!

And more breaking news..Jay Turner has advanced to double nitro categories AGAIN.  Back to back final round appearances for the very consistent Mancuso H-D team in both Top Fuel and Pro Fuel categories- a repeat of the Jim McClure NatÕls back in September.

Turner will take on John Breckenridge in the JIMS Pro Fuel final and he will face Drums Brancaccio in the ScreaminÕ Eagle Top Fuel final.  Both riders have wins this season, and itÕs an Ōup for grabsĶ final in the quickest and fastest racing field of the year from Rockingham Dragway!!

Barnett Nitro Outlaw category is on the track now.  Stay tuned for the numbers from the semis shortly.

3:12pm

Sportsman eliminationÕs are back on the track to catch up on an interrupted 1st session.

The ProÕs are back out at 4:00pm.

2:27pm

The records continue to fall at Rockingham Dragway.  Add Andy SimonÕs 8.500 in G2 Street Pro to the list as well as a 9.314 from Jamie McNaughton in V-Rod racing.

A truly remarkable event underway here at the ScreaminÕ Eagle Performance Parts NationalÕs with a spectacular turnout and the performances exceed excellence here this weekend.

The ProÕs are back on the track and so far Jay Turner and the

Mancuso H-D team find themselves charging ahead in double nitro categories again!

Stay tuned for the round No. 2 Pro numbers shortly.

ITÕS OFFICIAL!!!  THE NEW TOP FUEL RECORD IS 6.240!

Doug Vancil opened up eliminationÕs with a 6.268 to back up the new E.T. record.

Mike Romine holds on the MPH record with yesterdayÕs 221.78mph pass and now, after todayÕs opening round- Jay Turner stands to take that record if he can back up the blazing 224.66mph (6.27) lap he opened up with on the Mancuso H-D ride.

The bikes are still on the track and flyinÕ!!

Stay tuned for the numbers on the ladder pages.

10:50am

**Early round Sportsman elimination update:

Could the V-Rod Destroyers be headed for the 8Õs??

Michael Ray advances in his opening round with a 9.03..improving yesterdayÕs record 9.08.

Brian Fox came out on the Tilley H-D Destroyer and clocked a 9.095.

L.E. Tonglet hit a 9.085 and Douglas Horne scored a 9.098.

These spectacular numbers happened in the opening round!  Could there be better numbers coming today?

The track conditions are fast- the chase for broken records continues!

Sunday- 9:00am

Good morning from Rockingham Dragway.  Early elimination rounds are underway in sportsman classes to narrow the huge fields prior to the opening ceremonies today at 12:30pm.

The skies are sunny and temps are cool- much like yesterday.  Racers are certainly hoping for those similar conditions after yesterdayÕs qualifying rounds brought forth chart-busting numbers for many!

YesterdayÕs Top Fuel field netted 20 entries and it took better than a 6.79 to stay in the field!

Perhaps the Romine Racing team sums it up best when Top Fuel champ, Mike Romine noted that he broke both the ET and speed record (6.29-221.78mph) yesterday, but qualified 3rd!

The result after Tracy Kile came out with a better 6.275 and then Doug Vancil blistered the track with a 6.24!

There is no doubt there will be new Top Fuel records this weekend, but the question is- Who will end up with them??

There is also a locked in new Destroyer record after several racers broke the mark yesterday, but Michael Ray ended up with the best number- 9.08, besting the current record held by Don Stratton at 9.21.

With the winding down Championship chase, the 20-pointÕs for setting E.T. records will certainly come in handy!

We will be underway with todayÕs opening ceremonies at 12:30pm.

All of todayÕs coverage will be carried on the ladder pages unless there is breaking news or delays to report on this page.

Stay tuned for plenty of action from Rockingham Dragway!!!

Pro 2nd Session:

ScreaminÕ Eagle Top Fuel

Romine backs up the E.T. record with a 6.318 in round two and stays No.1.

Tracy Kile runs his career best (we believe) 6.34 and charges to the #2 spot.  A great rebound pass for Kile who ran a 6.44 in the opening round, but had it thrown out after kicking out a foam block.  HeÕs in the show nicely now!

Jay Turner comes out with a 6.44 at 221mph and is now 3rd, while Vancil gets in the show (4th) with a 6.48 at 193mph. Brancaccio and Shigematsu round out the 40Õs for 3rd and 4th spots.

Twenty-two bikes competed in the Top Fuel 2nd session and the bump spot was a 6.908.  Chicago Joe is on the outside No.17) with a 6.964 followed by Sam WhiteÕs 6.965 and a 6.987 from Jake Silcox that doesnÕt have them in the show yet.  One shot left and that session, the final session of the day is coming up soon.

Back to sportsman qualifying now.

JIMS Pro Fuel

Turner gets into the show this time and takes over the No. 1 spot with a 6.61 at 207mph!  Fagan and Streeter get enough to get on the right side of the order in this round too.

S & S Pro Gas

Connie Cohen and the CC Rider team make a huge move in the 2nd round, taking over the top spot with a 7.15 at 182.mph!!  (Her career best)

Cohen was paired with Joe Sternotti for the pass and both lost fire in the box.  Sternotti was unable to get it going in the 30 seconds required, but CohenÕs crew got her fired up for the low E.T and top MPH pass of the day after two sessions.

Kresto Pro Drag

Dale Nungesser enters the show in 2nd round and takes over the No. 1 spot with a 7.38 at 169.89mph.  Terry Stewart moves to the #2 spot.

Samson Pro Modified

Pippin holds on to top spot and Lee is still 2nd, while Tom Caldwell makes a big improvements (8.22) and moves to the 3rd spot.

G2 Street Pro

Andy Simon takes over the No.1 spot with a record (E.T.) 8.54.  Simon, who owns the current record (8.57) has another qualifying session and tomorrowÕs eliminationÕs to back up the number, or perhaps further improve it!

Update:  2nd round of the ProÕs scheduled out at 3:00pm.

We are almost 2 hours off schedule today due to unavoidable delays, such as oil downs and various track clean ups.

We are hoping for a smoother 2nd session.

We do want to mention that during last nightÕs TNT session, Lauren Long (on her Destroyer bike) took a nasty spill on the top end that resulted in a fractured femur in her right leg.  It was reported that she had surgery to treat the fracture this morning and is doing well.

GET WELL SOON LAURA..Lots of people are asking about you and send their best.

2:25pm

More from todayÕs sportsman opening rounds.

Julia Holliday has a 10.333 for the No. 1 spot in S & S Super Sport.  Holliday is looking to clench a back-to-back championship title.

Rich Vreeland is just off her mark in 2nd place with a 10.334.

Mike Fiztgerald (thatÕs ŌMavrikĶ to Talk Shop users) nailed a perfect 9.700 in Rucker Performance Super Gas.  That will be hard to beat, but thereÕs still two rounds left for the field of 39 to match it.

Mike Roberts is first in S & S 124 class with his 9.531 while Michael Ray had problems and sits at the bottom of the 4-bike field so far.

Jamie McNaughton, coming off the win in Virginia leads the pack after one V-Rod session with a 9.403.

Sit back and relax..we are in for a long full day of racing here at The Rock!!

2:00pm

Sportsman qualifying will wrap up their interrupted first round shortly and then we will run 2nd round of Syn3 ET.

By the time the 70-plus ET bikes get down the track- we will likely head back over to 2nd round Pro qualifying.

TodayÕs opening rounds have been nothing short of exciting in several classes.  The Destroyers took the track by storm with multiple record breaking passes and then Mike Romine is set to back up a new Top Fuel record.

Tak Shigematsu had that same chance in Virginia when he opened up with a 6.24 pass, but never got the back up mark.  Look for Shigematsu

After several delays that now have us quite a bit off schedule the Pro opening round finished with a thrill for the crowd when Romine blasted down the track.  HereÕs a few notes.  (We are now back to finish the Sportsman first round).

ScreaminÕ Eagle Top Fuel

Mike Romine breaks the Top Fuel record mark by .008 of a second and chops his own MPH record as well!   His 6.30 at 221.78mph has him on top of the charts in qualifying as he stands to back up the record marks this weekend.  Look out for the record charts this weekend!!!

JIMS Pro Fuel

John Breckenridge hit the six second zone in the Pro Fuel opening round and sit No. 1 and No.2 in the order so far.

Chris Streeter had problems and sits on the outside of the field.  It was big problems for Fagan and Turner as well and they will look for a spot in the show in round two.

S & S Pro Gas

Dirk Higgins clocked a 7.386 at 167.61mph for the top spot.  Higgins who missed a chance at the win in Virginia after crossing in front of the 750ft block in eliminations will hope to rebound from the unfortunate DQÕd round here at The Rock.

Kresto Pro Drag- Terry Stewart came out on top of the Pro Drag field (7.453) in front of pointÕs leaders- Herschberger and Moore.

Samson Pro Modified- Junior Pippin is back in great shape!  Pippin who was absent from the racing scene in Virginia for health issues, is now back and looks like heÕs feeling just fine with the #1 qualifying spot at 8.078-159.44mph.

Sportsman qualifying was interrupted at 11:00am to get the proÕs underway.  We will resume the sportsmanÕs opening session after the Pro rounds.

The G2 Street Pro class opened ip the Pro session and it was Jeff KingÕs 8.799 at 152.16mph that was good enough for the tops spot.

Andy Simon was squirrelly off the line and mustered only a 9.344, while Zach Johnson had to shut it off in the box.

Stay tuned for more from the ProÕs and remaining sportsman later.

SEP- Derek Christensen clocked a 11.513 for the top spot in front of a close 11.514 from Dennis Ross.

Performance Corner Super Eliminator- Scotty Hooper is pulling double duty this weekend- heÕs newly licensed in the Pro Drag category, but right now, he leads the field in Super Eliminator with a 10.913 against the 10.90 index.

Charles Cannon is out front in Dragmasters Hot Street with a 10.201 at 124.52mph in front of the pointÕs leader, Bruce CronebergerÕs 10.242 at 129.10mph.

Syn3 ET-opening round.  Dan DeGood takes the top qualifying spot so far with a .020 reaction.  70 entries took the track for round one ET qualifying.

ScreaminÕ Eagle V-Rod Destroyer-

What an opening round!  The  E.T. record was broken FOUR times during the round and the MPH charts changed twice!

The current records heading into this event are held by Don Stratton

at 9.216-142.70mph.

Check out the numbers that stand to take over the books if they back them up:

L.E. Tonglet leads the pack with his E.T. and MPH breaking- 9.112 at 145.86mph!!!

Michael Ray is right behind him with a 9.116 a 143.98mph.

Don Stratton bettered his own current E.T. record with a 9.192 and

Julia Holliday bettered StrattonÕs current record herself with a 9.215.

Looks like we will have our hands full charting the outcome of new Destroyer records this weekend!!

More from The Rock later.

Good morning from Rockingham Dragway.  We are set to begin sportsman qualifying shortly with very cool temps and sunny skies.  Tech is still going strong with 370 teched in so far.  Looks like we could easily hit 400 entries!

We will be carrying the results right here on ahdra.com.  (Of course with 400 entries- a lot of typing will be going on here in the tower in an effort to get you the results as quickly as we can.  Your patience is always appreciated).

Stay tuned for numbers following todayÕs opening session.

Friday- Test and Tune Day at the Rock:

Update #2 from test and tune:

After mentioning that records could fall this weekend, Matt Smith proved it is indeed possible.  The scenario-  David Poague out of Manassas, VA is here to ride in Pro Mod competition this weekend.  To give his bike a test lap , he put Matt Smith on his bike for tonightÕs test and tune and Smith clocked a 8.04- better than the 8.06 that currently has Smith in the record books.

Tomorrow, the saddle is turned over to Poague and Mike Lozano will be turning the wrenches.  Stay tuned to see if Poague can take the bike to the record zone this weekend.

Good afternoon from Rockingham Dragway.  Test and Tune is underway and the racerÕs are still rolling in steadily at the gate.  ItÕs going to be a full house in the pits!  200 racerÕs pre-registered for this one and plenty more signing up on site.  Over 20 Top Fuel entries so far.

Speaking of Top Fuel, plenty of them are taking the track for testing as the conditions have turned out to be similar to tomorrowÕs forecast.  The skies are sunny and the temps are at a cool mid 60 mark.

Tracy Kile and the Bad Apple Race Team have adjusted to the conditions remarkably well- coming off the trailer with a 6.40 at 216mph!!

Mike Romine has clocked a couple of 6.50Õs himself.

Records could certainly fall in any category here his weekend.

TomorrowÕs qualifying begins at 9:00am with Sportsman sessions and the proÕs take the track at 11:00am.  Tune in here tomorrow for all the latest news and results.
