On the other side, Doug Vancil and Jay Turner paired for another dead even race to the end when Vancil pulled it out with a 6.55 to a 6.67 from Turner.

Drums and Vancil headed to the final later!!

5:04pm

Last check, the track temp was 113 ..down from the earlier 136!  ItÕs still a scorcher here in Phoenix and we are headed in to the semis starting with Top Fuel:

4:36pm-  Nitro Outlaw Harley fired back up with a healthy group of nitro riders going for their shot at the $500 bucks, courtesy of Barnett Clutches.

Stay tuned for results from regular competition once the Outlaws are completed and eliminations resume.

4:15pm

Barnett Nitro Harley out for their first session of the day, but we are on competition hold for track clean-up.  Meanwhile, Stephanie has punched in all the numbers up until this point, so the results are current for all rounds that have run.   We still have a few sportsman quarter finals and then itÕs time for the semiÕs. Stand by for the signal that we have fired them back up at Firebird!

2:00pm

Round one sessions still under way with the sportsman classes on the track.  The ProÕs were due out again at 2pm, but we will hold off on interrupting until everyoneÕs first session is complete and also to allow fans to get through the line up anxiously awaiting an autograph from the legendary Willie G. Davidson.  Willie G surprised us all this morning with a surprise appearance at the riders meeting where he spoke to racers and expressed his appreciation for the sport.  ÒNancy and I came out for our fuel fix todayÓ he said with a big grin.

Racing continues under very warm sunny skies and IÕll turn you over to the ladder pages for todayÕs results as StephanieÕs fingers bang the keys as fast as they can!

We will be back with any breaking news or changes to the schedule.  Next Pro round should happen around 3pmPT.

1:00pm

We fired emÕ up ran a couple of pairs and then had some..shall I say it??..Oil!

Anyhoo..we are now bringing a pair out to restart the session.  So far..Steve Stordeur got by Joe Sternotti to the next round..Drums Brancaccio and Tracy Kile both had problems on their pass, and it was Drums that was able to get it to the stripe with smoke along the way.  Jack Romine advanced with ease after Chicago Joe left before activating the tree and the Champ and #1 qualifyer, Mike Romine was just upset big in the opener by Griz Robinson.  Both were struggling early on the pass and Romine left some debris along the way while Robinson was able to pull out the upset.

The session is on hold briefly to clean up the debris and we will be back in action soon.

Stay tuned for the opening session numbers coming up after the round on the elimination pages of the Live Updates:

Good morning from Arizona!  It seems we just left the track a few minutes ago instead of hours ago after a long night of qualifying.  There were so many oil downs in the late evening session, I was beginning to think April Fools Day had moved in early as the calls kept coming to shut em down AGAIN!  Oh well, a new day is here and we are looking for a smooth day of racing under sunny skies that are expected to get into very warm low 90Õs.

The Sportsman classes ran the majority of qualifying under the lights here at Firebird- and it was Craig Wendt who ended up with the best reaction at the end of the day (.002) in ET qualifying to steal the spot from Tania Thompson who held the pole in the first round with her .007. Thompson moved to the #2 spot.

In Drag Masters Hot Street, the Champ, Bruce Croneberger took the #1 spot with his 10.268 best.

In a scarce field of S & S 124 class entries, Mike Roberts was #1 with a 9.814 and Grover Inks is #2 with a 10.290.

Larry Edmondson Jr, said he was ready to get rid of this #2 plate in 07 and he is on the right trail- leading the field in todayÕs eliminations with the #1 spot in V-Rod competition with a 9.572.

I ran into Julia Holliday late last night while the ladders were being posted and caught her cheering at the sight of her name at the top of the Super Sport field.  HollidayÕs 10.305 earned her that position in front of Jack WagnerÕs 10.318.

Bob Drapp is dialed in like the champion he is with a nice 9.708 against the 9.70 index in Super Gas racing for the pole position.

Jeff Stevens, who had unfortunate luck when arriving in Phoenix with this trailer and bikes stolen didnÕt let it stop him from reaching the top of the charts when Steve Horne lent him a Destroyer for the weekend that Stevens took to the #2 Super Gas spot with a 9.710.

Gary Douglass was near perfect in the Super Eliminator field with a 10.901 against the 10.90 index and Douglass will join the #1 qualifyers on the starting line today for rider introductions in the opening ceremony.

Daniel Harvey decided to pull out of the Destroyer field yesterday, but he stayed in the SEP competition to take the #1 qualifying spot with a near dead on 11.504 in the 11.50 class.

L.E. Tonglet is looking for the back-to-back Destroyer win here in Phoenix after finishing the day in the #1 spot with his 9.249 at 142mph.  Douglas Horne spared some time from his new fuel ride to climb on his Destroyer and ride it to the #2 spot with a 9.322.  Horne also sits in the top half of a tough Pro Fuel field.

Julia Holliday holds the #1 Super Sport spot and faired well in the Destroyer line up as well with a 9.328 for the 3rd spot.

ThatÕs a peek at todayÕs #1 qualifyers in the Sportsman categories, and they are on the track now in early rounds of eliminationÕs to narrow the fields for todayÕs show that kicks off at 12:30pm.

Stephanie will have all your results on the ladder pages today right here on AHDRA Live Updates.

Stay tuned for the action.

Saturday, March 31st – Qualifying Day at Firebird IntÕl Raceway

11:00pm-

Believe it or not- more oil downs followed throughout the night, but we have now completed the final pair of sportsman!  Good night.

9:10pm-

Well some lucky ET racer has quite the oil clean up tab with that one taking 59 minutes!

We are now back racing, but it is going to be quite a long rest of the night.

OMG!! Oh my gosh that is..we have another  major oil down..itÕs 8:22pm..we still have 9 classes yet to run to finish the night..need I say more?

Final Round Top Fuel:

7:00pm- Finally back in action.  Tracy Kile comes out and gets in the sixes and goes from #20 to #13.  Phil Schmidt still left to run but kills the switch after the burnout and Joey Sternotti gets to come back for that rerun- so stay tuned for the numbers coming up on the result pages.

That will do it for Pro qualifying with the exception of a Pro Gas and Top Fuel rerun which will be posted should it affect the order.

We still have quite a bit of sportsman qualifying left to do tonight so we are looking at a late one.

Stay tuned.

6:37pm

A hat trick of foam blocks taken out on the Vancil-Sternotti pairing in the final round, so we are on hold to replace them.   Vancil was off his earlier pace with the centerline visit, but stays #2 currently. Sternotti will get a rerun on the pass interference.

With 2 pairs left to go- Mike Romine has grabbed the #1 spot, Vancil is #2, Shigematsu is 3rd, Drums Brancaccio is 4th, Jack Romine is 5th for the top five.  Bill Furr is standing by to see if he will make the show.  He ran a 7.71 and sits in the #16 spot and eagerly waiting to see the outcome of the remaining pairs.  So are we!

Back in action shortly.

Mike Romine just ran a 6.41 and takes over the #1 spot but the round is not over yet..stay tuned!

6:19pm

Pro Fuel: Jay Turner (6.69) and Armon Furr (6.78) both go quicker and will head into tomorrows show #1 (Turner) and #2 (Furr).

Top Fuel on the track now.  Back after the round to see the final order for tomorrowÕs show.

6:03pm

Pro Gas:

Lozano kept his #1 spot, but a track error on FeazellÕs final pass has evidentially earned him a re-run which will come later in the session.  He wants a shot at the #1 spot.

5:47pm

Street Pro:  Simon and Johnson stay #1 and #2.  Verl Smitty Smith improved his numbers but stays #6.  No changes in the order and Simon will take the #1 position for tomorrowÕs eliminationÕs.

Pro Mod:

Krenik stays #1, and backs up his 8.81 with a 8.82 for the new record.

Pro Drag:

Will Simplot pulls out the only improvement in the final round (7.574) and stays in the #2 spot behind the leader, Rick Moore in the 3rd round.

Pro Gas on deck..stay tuned.

5:02pm

The V-Rod Destroyers are finished with round #2 and Tonglet does not improve, but hangs on to top spot.  Douglas Horne was better on the 2nd pass and is now #2 with a 9.326 bumping Julia Holliday to 3rd with a 9.328.  Gene Thomason and Ronnie Fensick flip flop the #4 and #5 spot and Valerie Thompson who is here with Go.Daddy.com reps in full force is #6 after two rounds.

The status and the schedule plan:  SEP bikes are now on the track for round #2.  We will then run second round of Drag Masters Hot Street and interrupt to go back to the ProÕs 3rd and final session.

Following the results?  HereÕs where we stand if you are looking for results for your favorite class as of 5:10pm.

Syn3 ET, V-Rod Destroyer have completed 2 rounds so far.  SEP and Hot Street on deck for round #2.

Super Eliminator, SSC 124, Super Sport, V-Rod and Super Gas have all run one round only and will run 2nd and 3rd  rounds following the final Pro round.

More coming for Firebird IntÕl Raceway!

4:31pm

The ÒOÓ word (OIL) has us once again on hold during Destroyer qualifying. UGH!

L.E. Tonglet is headed in the right direction to grab a repeat event win with the current #1 spot at 9.24 after one round.  Check out Super Sport champ, Julia HollidayÕs 9.32 for the #2 spot after one round in a field with 25 entries here in Phoenix.

Douglas Horne still takes time away from his new toy (Pro Fuel bike) to stay on the top half of the Destroyer charts with a 9.386 for the 3rd spot in front of Ronnie FensickÕs 9.38 for #4.   Stay tuned to see if the scrambles after the completion of round two.

Still waiting for the all clear signal.

4:01pm

ScreaminÕ Eagle Top Fuel:

Doug Vancil goes from #16 to #1 with a 6.47 at 216mphÉ and Shigematsu moves to #2.

Great round with several delays, but hereÕs some of the news..

Chicago Joe clocks a 6.92 and moves from #15 to #12!

Drums Brancaccio improves with a 6.50 and goes from #9 to #3!

Jay Turner is now in the field with a 6.91 to go from #18 to #10!

Bill Furr has yet to get a full pass in and has one shot left.

Steve Dorn boiled the tire in the 2nd round and moves out of the field in the #17 spot with Mike Scott and Tracy Kile at #18 and #19.

Top Fuel rookie, Joey Sternotti is holding is own in a field of the best with the #7 spot on the DJ Johnson ride.  Phil Schmidt is doing the same being relatively new to Top Fuel himself with the #6 spot.

The V-Rod Destroyers are on the track and we will run sportsman classes until 5:30pm and then itÕs back for the final round of ProÕs.  As I am typing this another oil down has occurred!

Stand by for update on the clean up.

3:28pm

The reds are off and we are a green light go to resume qualifying with Pro Stock.

Pro Fuel: Jay TunerÕs earlier 6.717 keeps the #1 position and check out the newcomer to the fuel category..Douglas Horne is in the 2nd spot with a 6.877 best in front of veteran and champ, Armon FurrÕs 6.904 (improved in the round) and the #2 plateholder—John BreckenridgeÕs 6.916

Top Fuel pulling to the line to start their 2nd session.

3:10pm—Whoa..that clean up is more involved than originally reported.  We have about 75ft of the ÒOÓ word to clean up from the Pro Stock round- so stand by to resume qualifying with Pro Stock and  then Top Fuel following the clean-up.

3:02pm

Pro Gas- Lozano did not improve in round #2 but stays #1 with a 7.322 .  Dave Feazell improves (7.590) from his round one 7.865 to stay #2.  Eleven entries in the field so far.

1:15pm:

ProÕs have completed 1st round of the day following a few delays for scattered parts and pieces. Tak Shigematsu finished out the Top Fuel session with the best lap at 6.49 and 212mph.  Tommy Grimes had the spot prior to ShigematsuÕs run with a 6.60 which leaves him in the #2 spot.  Mike Romine grabbed the 3rd spot in the field with the top speed of the round at 213.98mph (6.61).

We are just over an hour behind following some delays in round one and expect to call the next Pro session at 2:00pm (PT).  Stay tuned for the numbers!

12:14pm

Pro Qualifying still underway for the ProÕs and we are standing by to return to Sportsman qualifying.  I will apologize in advance for delayed results, but we are having our share of compulink computer problems in the tower with a ÒgreenÓ staff from Firebird.  IÕm standing over them so not able to provide highlights on this page.  Be patient with Stephanie as she enters the results as fast as they get them to her..which so far has been painfully slow!!
