Team Latus Motors Harley-Davidson Northwest
Nationals
August 28th & 29th
Woodburn Dragstrip
Sunday- August 29th
Finals complete and my
continuing story on the Northeast trio has concluded with a storybook
ending. They ALL won!
Tracy Kile beat Doug
Vancil in the Nitro Harley final, while Sternotti took the Street Pro prize and
it was Dale Raudenbush taking out #1 qualifyer and record setter Rick Maney in
the Pro Stock final.
The three teams celebrated together on
the starting line following the 3 for 3 titles.
Although Dan DeGood got his bike here in a different
trailer, he too was a Northeast winner this weekend in the SYN3 ET class
keeping his points lead over Jack Wagner.
All the final round
numbers are coming right up. This
has been a picture perfect weekend here at Woodburn Dragstrip. Thanks for tuning in for all the
action!
Good
night from Woodburn Dragstrip.
Semis underway. It will be Tracy Kile and Doug Vancil
in the Screamin Eagle Nitro Harley final.
Too little too late for the Fast Lane Racing Team and Ron Houniet. The Canadian rider went out early
today, but AHDRA allows Outlaw fields in which unqualified or eliminated fuel
bikes can get in passes when the schedule allows. Houniet has nailed six second passes in all of his outlaw
runs and would liked to have had the same in this mornings opening round. Also making Outlaw passes after a holeshot
loss in JIMS Pro Fuel is Gabe Larkins and the Nitro Syndicate team. Larkins sends a special hello to his
daughter from Woodburn.
Stay
tuned for all the semis and finals coming your way.
Stay tuned for all the
numbers following the round.
Semi
Final rounds in all classes coming up at 3:15pm (PDT). The crowd is thick and the competition
is fierce. Catch the results
following the round and then its final rounds in all classes. Track records, national records and
attendance records. Itís a great
day at Woodburn Dragstrip.
Round Two Update- Tracy
Kile is on his way to the semis after taking out Joe Timmons, Steve Dorn landed
a 6.82 to advance over Robert Smith, and Vancil advanced over Heidner. We are hold briefly after Chaz OíNeill
took out 5 timing cones on his round two pass which gave Eastcott a ride to the
semis to face Vancil. More coming
soon.
Dan
Norlin ran a 10.127 at 132.45mph in his Drag Masterís Hot Street bye round
opener. Yes, a 10.127, (the
current record 10.290 at 131.06).
Pending everything but a cavity search by tech, we will see what hes got
in round two to back it up.
More from Oregon- the
action continues here in Woodburn.
In the awaited Street Pro opener, Sternottis ET slowed but he still got
spped with a 9.309 at 149.57mph to advance over Earl Burley. Steve Stute advanced over Verl Smith.
Follow
the ladders in your favorite class on the result pages for all the latest from
Woodburn Dragstrip.
THIS TRACK IS HOT. #! Qualifyer Tracy Kile led off
with a 6.692 at 208.47mph to advance over Arlie Becker. Local, Steve Dorn advanced with a 6.901
at 206.80mph over Chicago Joe and Vancil opened up with 6.503 at 213.21 the
best times recorded of the weekend in Screamin Eagle Nitro Harley. A Canadian match up with Ron Houniet
and Wayne Eastcott went to Eastcott who ran his best of the weekend, 6.915 at
201.52mph, while Houniet s struggles continued with a 8.599.
In S & S Cycle Pro
Stock, Rick Maney is unstoppable her in Woodburn with a 7.445 at 176.85mph show
opener which lands him multiple records to be verified and confirmed
later.
Eliminations continue
with what appears to be the largest crowd ever for the AHDRA Woodburn
event. The weather is perfect, the
track is good and the racing keeps getting better. Stay tuned for the Rivera Primo Street Pro opener where all
eyes are on Sternotti for fast numbers.
More
coming.
Big day of racing ahead
at the Team Latus Motors Harley-Davidson Northwest Nationals. Good morning from Woodburn
Dragstrip. Eliminations will kick
off today at 12:30pm. A lot of
exciting happenings on the track in yesterdays qualifying and more expected in
todays show.
If you have been
following the story on the Northeast trio
(Kile, Raudenbush and Sternotti) who traveled here to compete in Oregon
with their share of mishaps along the way, the story does get better for them. Lets recap- Raudenbush and Kile showed
up Friday and waited anxiously for Ted , the driver with all three bikes in tow
to arrive, which he did indeed.
Saturday, Sternotti is still trying to get here despite cancelled
flights, and he does.
During qualifying, all
three missed one round, each for a different reason, but a happy ending came
when all three finished the day with personal best performances.
Tracy Kile grabbed the #1
spot from reigning champion Doug Vancil in the final round with a 6.659 at
206.32mph. For Dale Raudenbush of
Old Zionsville, PA it was a 7.526 at 171.75 that left him with a never ending
grin last night. He finished with
the S & S Cycle Pro Stock #2 spot, while Rick Maney earned his #1 spot with
a 7.460, good enough for a new national record.
Sternotti earned a new
national record himself with a 150.52mph blast in Rivera-Primo Street Pro and
he was the 2nd ride
r in the 8ís in the class quickly becoming a fan
favorite. Sternotti says the
upcoming Indy race should be the best weekend of racing in the class of the
year.
So the story will pick up
today for the three, and we will give you the final outcome with details along
the way in todayís coverage from Woodburn Dragstrip.
Other happenings- I did
get a chance to speak with Cliff Dwy last night, and his unusual finish in
qualifying was the result of a new motor.
Dwy says theyíve been tweaking around with it and the team thrashed
between 2nd and third round changing it back while a large group of
local fans surrounded their pit to watch.
Dwy says its his worst performance here at his home track in a while,
but he was still full of spirit at last nights Pro Mod dinner, and its not over
until todays eliminations, so look out for the Sasquatch team.
Meanwhile, Doug Ainsworth
of Canada was wearing the biggest smile of all at last nights Pro Mod gathering
after his #1 spot finish, but Darren Mauldin says he plans to get to the
winners circle himself.
Dan DeGood and Jack
Wagner will be racing under pressure today with the Syn3 ET national points
lead on the line. DeGood finished
in the 4th spot in yesterdays qualifying while Wagner was close in 6th. They are just minutes away from a round
or two of eliminations in the class to narrow the field to sixteen before the
1230pm start, so stay tuned for the results of the early rounds, and all of todays
eliminations from Woodburn Dragstrip.
Back
with more soon.
Qualifying Day in
Woodburn
The final round has
wrapped up and it was a big finish for Tracy Kile out of Hatfield, PA. Kile grabbed the top spot from Vancil
with a 6.659 at 206.32mph. Kile
had a career best day here in Woodburn and he will be on the starting line for
the #1 qualifyer intros tomorrow.
Joe Sternotti did not get
back in the 8s for his final pass, but he was fast enough to back up the new
1/4 mile mph record in Street Pro pending all the usual verifications.
Steve Huff is back on his
Pro Dragster this weekend and proving it can still run the numbers with a 2nd
place finish, but it was Phil Schmidt of Orangevale, CA taking the #1 spot in
Kresto Pro Drag.
In Joker Machine Pro Mod,
Canadian rider Doug Ainsworth is happy with his performance that has given him
the top spot and Darren Mauldin is close behind as could be expected, but the
off mark goes to Cliff Dwy who is usually in the 1 or 2 spot at his hometown
track. No word on the slower
performance from the Dwy pit yet, but we will catch up with him this evening at
the Pro Mod seafood fest and get a few words from him.
Dan Norlin is on top in
the trio of Hot Street entries and no one bettered the champion, Karen Wagner
for the Super Sport top spot. J.P. Hendrzak hit the jackpot number in SEP with
a 11.50 and Marci Rodrigues follows with a 11.520.
We will catch more
highlights in the pits for you tomorrow in all 14 classes of competition. Tune in here tomorrow for all the results
and catch the webcast on www.rsbn.net. Check the broadcast listings for proper
times.
Good night from Woodburn
Dragstrip.
Final Round of the Day in
Sportsman on the track at Woodburn Dragstrip. Maney may have had enough in his 2nd round pass
for the record books and we will confirm once the math, fuel checks, etc have
come been checked out.
All
the final round numbers coming your way at the conclusion of the round.
Big news from
Woodburn. The racers say the track
is good, and just ask Joe Sternotti.
He just flew in after a cancelled flight in time for a round two pass
and has landed a 8.989 at 150.52mph.
It makes him the 2nd rider in the 8 zone in S
treet Pro
competition and if he backs up the mph this weekend, he will have a new
national record. If he betters
that 8.989, he could land the ET record as well, just set 2 weeks ago in
Bristol by Chip Ellis (8.963).
The eighth mile marks in
Street Pro need to stand corrected following the Bristol event. While Ellis set the ET marks, he did
not break the mph marks in the eighth mile as earlier reported.
Travis Lummus of Asheville, NC set the
1/8th mile record with
a 122.74 in Gainesville, Fl earlier this year.
At this time, Lummus
still holds the 1/8th and 1/4 mph records.
Pro qualifying continues
with eyes on Rick Maney for a new record in S & S Pro Stock.
More
coming soon.
Round One Complete. Now that we have our result files up
and running, things are a little less stressful in the tower and we will try to
get things moving faster. By now
you have seen the round one numbers, but here are a few notes. Rick Maney ran a 7.460 in the Pro Stock opener that will better his
own current 7.477 if he backs it up this weekend.
Tracy Kile made a grand
opening appearance all the way from Hatfield, PA and off the trailer with a
6.695 at 203.85 in the Nitro Harley field. He held the number one position until Doug Vancil came out
with the 6.676 at 210.77mph.
Steve Heidner and Steve
Dorn both made passes in round one but both were DQD after centerline
infractions.
The Top Fuel class will
be a full field of 16 here in Woodburn this weekend.
Jack Romine ran a 6
second blast in his Pro Fuel round one pass while the fan popular rear engine
bike piloted by Chris Gartman landed the #2 spot.
In Kresto Pro Drag, John
Breckenridge is the front runner currently while Rod Anderson is 2nd. Chuck Jones made the trip from Florida
and is currently in 3rd.
So where is Scott Truett?
According to a recent story in Speed Magazine, Jones and Truett struck a
deal earlier in the season. Jones
would sit out the Seattle race if Truett would skip Oregon. If true, it looks like they kept their end of the bargain in
tact.
Yesterday, you may have
read about the trip from the Northeast sweating it out waiting for their bikes
to arrive. Well for one of the
riders, Joe Sternotti, it was he who was sweating on his own after a cancelled
plane flight. Sternotti has
arrived now after missing first round of Street Pro qualifying, but he will be
out on the track for round two.
Just
a few notes from the round one action.
Track prep underway and round two coming your way.
Back with morefrom
Woodburn. Pro qualifying is
underway. Local Oregon racer Steve
Stute leads the Stree Pro class after one with a 9.576. John Breckenridge is up front in Kresto
Pro Drag with a 7.730 at 158.22mph and Doug Ainsworth leads the Pro Mod field
with a 8.302 at 155.33mph. The
numbers are coming up soon. We are
working on the database currently and soon as we have it updated the numbers
will be coming at you.
Stay
tune as Tound one continues.
Good morning from the
Team Latus Motors Harley-Davidson Northwest Nationals. The sun is here and so are many racers
ready to take the quarter mile today.
The riders meeting begins shortly and qualifying will be underway at
9am.
I had a chance to sit
down with Sportsman competitors Donnie Huffman and Dan DeGoo
d last night and it
turns out DeGood is riding his own bike here in Oregon. Earlier I reported he was on a loaner since
he had done just that a few times in the past. Not the case here courtesy of the Vancil team who loaded up
the Mountain Top, PA riders bike for the trip here.
Huffman on the other hand
is indeed loaning a bike this weekend, courtesy of reigning ET champ, John
Hendrzak. Not only did Huffman say
he wanted to work on his Super Eliminator lead, he said it wont hurt to work on
his 2nd place finish in SEP.
He reminded us in front of the SEP leader DeGood that this would make
three years in a row in the 2nd position. He jokingly added that he thought that could be a first for
that class. Three in a row for 2nd,
not too bad.
Stay
tuned for qualifying highlights today from Woodburn Dragstrip.
Friday night pit
notes: Just under 30 minutes left
in this evenings test and tune session and the pits are taking shape. 100 or more racers expected to compete
here this weekend.
Tales from the pits
include an East Coast trio breathing a sigh of relief now.
Dale Raudenbush, Tracy Kile and Joe
Sternotti packed up their bikes in the Old Glory Racing trailer for the long
haul from the Northeast and while the riders took the airplane route and
arrived earlier today, they were not quite sure where the trailer and driver
were for several hours today. A
loss of communication via cell phone left them wandering homeless in the pits,
but humorously so. The trailer
just made its way through the gates and they were happily reunited. Stay tuned for the ending
to this tale when we see how the racing unfolds this weekend here at Woodburn
Dragstrip.
More east coast racers
flying the friendly skies to compete here this weekend include Dan DeGood who
is leading championship points in both SEP and ET categories. Jack Wagner is close behind him in ET
competition and both are here to rack up more points this weekend.
Donnie Huffman showed up
a few hours ago. Huffman looks to chalk up a few more points for his lead in
Super Eliminator competition.
Canadian Nitro Harley
rider Wayne Eastcott pulled in the pits with a flashy new rig. Eastcott hopes to make his way to the
winners circle this weekend along with several others teched in at last
check. They include, Doug Vancil,
Ron Houniet, Ken Kent, Chicago Joe, Joe Timmons, Chaz OíNeill, Mark Turner, and
Tracy Kile. Early estimates
indicate an 8 bike field for this weekend, but you never know until that third
round.
We will be underway at
9am tomorrow with round one of Sportsman qualifying and the pros will take the
track at 11am.
Catch all the updates
right here.
See you tomorrow.
Good afternoon from
Woodburn Dragstrip. The gates are
open the sun is shining and the forecast shows a delightful weekend ahead.
