Elimination Day..
3:45pm-
Semi final rounds underway..Tak Shigematsu just took out Jay Turner on the Mancuso Top Fueler in a close race down the ¼ mile and Mark Cox blasted by Bob Malloy to set up the Cox-Shigematsu final ( a ÒsushiÓ and chicken finish)Ó.
The semis continue following a Barnett Outlaw round for the fulers and we will pick up with the JIMS Pro Fuel semis shortly . Catch the numbers on the result pages as they finish.
3:05pm
EliminationÕs running along smoothly. The temps dropped at least 10 degrees over the past hour or so as the radar indicates showers in the area. We are just approaching the end of todayÕs 2nd session and will keep things moving along. Follow the numbers on the result pages here on www.ahdra.com
The sun is shining, itÕs plenty hot and we are fired up with round one eliminations. Follow all the results right here on www.ahdra.com
7:15pm- Got er done in Maryland..with only a 5-minute rain delay that came in the final round (which dried on contact with the heat filled track)- the qualifying sessions are now complete.
Check out all the numbers for your favorite class on the result pages. Many thanks to the racers for putting on a great show despite the brutal conditions and to the fantastic staff at MIR.
Join us tomorrow for all the updates from eliminations that get underway at 12:30pm.
5:10pm- Round Two complete- but not with cooler temps. The racers are dealing with far less than ideal conditions here-and some are handling it better than others.
In the recent session of Top Fuel, Doug Vancil continued to struggle, as did Robert ÒZiggyÓ Stewart. Neither are in the field and there is only one more shot left.
In my effort to keep to keep your results coming to you in a timely manner while being a little short-handed on typing help in this Òair conditionedÓ tower-- IÕll- keep my comments here to a minimum. After all- the numbers do tell it allÉback with a final round update later.
2:20pm- Round One Update
Round one completed under sweltering conditions here at M.I.R. The last temperature reading was 98 degrees with heat index reading of 106. The last track temp reading showed 131. Dan DeGood just joined us here in the tower to commentate with the announcer during round two of SYN3 ET –deciding to sit out round two and break from the heat. When the champ sits out a round of his favorite class- it must be brutal out there.
The round one numbers are posted on the result pages-and any missing names will be filled in during the next round. The tech cards are still flocking in and are being entered quickly as possible.
Tak Shigematsu arrived late, but just in time to get down the track for the #1 qualifying spot in Screamin Eagle Nitro HarleyÉand a big birthday weekend for Jay Turner as he leads the field in JIMS Pro Fuel and sits in the 2nd spot in Top Fuel. HeÕs 39 and holding here at M.I.R. The Syn3 ET bikes are out for round 2. Stay with the number pages for the quickest updates and IÕll check back in here with any breaking news as time allows.
ItÕs HOT HOT HOT at M.I.R.
Good morning from M.I.R.
As you might expect- it is a hot July day in BuddÕs Creek, MD. The skies are cloudy and the forecast calls for a chance of scattered showers- we just hope they scatter elsewhere.
The line-up was gigantic this morning, as many of you know, e are not allowed to pit park until Saturday here. The line moved in rapidly and over 300 racers were parked within a 2-hour window.
We are set to begin qualifying at 11:00am and we will be here throughout the weekend with all the updates and results.
More to come following todayÕs opening round.
