AHDRA -Woodburn Dragstrip
Friday, September 5th Good afternoon from Woodburn Dragstrip the home of the Team Latus Motors Harley-Davidson Northwest Nationals! As always, I like to share the weather report to start things off, and things were certainly above normal here today, with temperatures reaching 98 degrees as 5:30pm approaches. The local report shows that we could drop a whopping 30 degrees by Sunday. The good news, today is only a parking and test and tune day, so if the weather experts are right (ha) we should have mid 70 degree numbers to deal with tomorrow. Test and tune is underway, with primarily sportsman bikes participating, while the pros elect to avoid the heat with cooler weather on the way for race day. The pits are shaping up nicely, with a mixed bag of competitors. Canadians, Ron Houniet and Ken Kent have arrived for a bit of Screamin' Eagle Nitro Harley action along with Joe Timmons of Salt Lake City, Seattle's, Steve Huff, Calfornia's, Chicago Joe, and not sitting out just because he's in command of the point's is Doug Vancil who is parked and ready to compete. The Hayes Jewelers Pro Gas class should provide good side by side action this weekend as Frank Dove rolled through the gate all the way from Maryland with Bruce and Susie Wevadau in tow to compete in several sportsman categories. Bad Dave Boss is teched in for Pro Gas competition as well as Peggy Bailey, Cecil Easley, Bob Grimes and more coming. Dan Degood hitched a plane and will be on the track with a lead in SEP and ET Nationals points, while he lends a hand on the Vancil Top Fuel crew as well. Matt Guidera makes up the only Pro Stock entry at this early hour, but Bradford is on his way and others expected. Cliff Dwy made the short drive to compete in Joker Machine Pro Modified, and the tech cards are still arriving. That's a quick note on the happenings for now. Stay with us this weekend for more from Woodburn Dragstrip.
Qualifying Day at Woodburn Dragstrip! Good morning from Oregon. We are moments away from kicking off first round of Pro Qualifying under pleasant sunny skies. As promised the temparatures have fallen to 78 degrees, which is a 20 degree break from the heat we arrived to yesterday. Stay tuned for all the action from Round One at the Latus Motors Harley-Davidson Northwest Nationals!

Final Qualifying
The sportsman classes have finished for the day and can head to the pits to relax and enjoy the sunshine remaining here at Woodburn Dragstrip. The Pro's are coming out for the final round, and local Kresto Pro Drag Rider, John McMillin is highlighting the field in the #1 spot and just made the quickest pass of the day in the class so far. Dorn is still in the lanes and coming out soon. Dorn and McMillin are both Oregon favorites. McMillin and his family have been quite the hosts to both the AHDRA staff and racers during our visit here. It turns out he's a real live, "Forrest Gump" . The fisherman out of South Beach, OR has kept us all fed with plenty of shrimp with plenty of local hospitality . Cliff Dwy of Joker Machine Modified ranks is also racing in hometown territory and has also been a gracious host to the AHDRA staff. He's hosting the Modified Racer's Association dinner tonight and I got a sneak preview of the menu, that includes crabcakes and lots more!! Back to the Pro Drag final qualifying...The Black Attack-All American Cycle team, piloted by Steve Dorn just bettered their own national record with a 7.316. The local fans are on their feet cheering the Oregon City, OR rider's quarter mile blast. We will be back shortly with all the Pro Final Round Results and here are the Sportsman numbers.

Weather makes for a lot of action in a short amount of time!
Folks- The weather made a fast change forcing racers and staff to scramble to attempt a big finish..we were close, in fact five more minutes the Top Fuel final could have happened, but the track was too wet and the Top Fuel final was left to share between Houniet and Vancil. All other finals were complete in a record amount of time. The tower is still furiously catching up with printed results and I'll be back shortly with the outcome.

It was a near perfect day, until the semi final round, when winds picked up and the skies darkened quickly. A big thanks to the track staff and all the racers for speeding things up in order to get the race finished. (Well almost) The crowds hung in until the end,and a special thanks to Ron Houniet and crew along with Vancil and crew for scrambling to get to that final before the rain won!
