Friday!! Set-Up..Parking..Test & Tune..We're ready to roll for tomorrow's qualifying at the AHDRA Northwest Nationals!
The forecast is perfect (so far)sunny skies, low 70's.
Looks like a full field of JIMS Top Fuelers with the top points contenders here to battle it out..including Ron Houniet,Dave O'Hara and Tak Shigematsu. The Joker Machine Modified Class is packing in the pits, and it looks like a healthy field of Pro Gas competition also. These are just a few notes from today, but there will be plenty to tell tomorrow when qualifying gets underway at 10:30am.

Good afternoon from Woodburn Dragstrip! It's after 2pm and we are now in to Round Two of qualifying! A larger numbr of bikes than expected and providing a cool show for the crowd..and a good crowd at that!
Round One ended with nothing spectacular to report on the track, but we're hoping some tuning in the pits and added track prep will bring the numbers to par for round two!
Twenty entries so far in JIMS Top Fuel, with sixteen making the round one show. Steve Huff holds the #1 spot with a 7.114 so there's plenty of room to step up Round Two! Ron Houniet's in the tower now, and reports a broken rocker arm kept him from making that round one pass, but he's ready for round two. Dave O'Hara had a mechanical problem too. I haven't made a pit stop to see what happened, but no doubt their thrashing to bring it back.
Scott Truett was happy with his first pass in Kresto Pro Drag. He reported that his "good motor" is under the weather and he's running on a spare..he's in the top spot with a 7.501,so that's some nice spare!
Dan Baisley is here in Pro Stock action(in the #1 spot) and the AHDRA extends a welcome back to Bill Hannon!!!
12 bikes made the first round appearance in Joker Machine Modified and Cliff Dwy is sitting happy wtih his 8.474!

Good morning from Woodburn Dragstrip! It's elimination day under cool sunny skies.
We are underway with a test and tune session and elimination's are set for 12noon.
Here's a few notes from the pits:

Ron Houniet was relaxed and confident with his Top Fuel performance yesterday, and made no changes to the Fast Lane racing machine.
Dave O'Hara blew two tranny's yesterday stuggling to improve. The Hell Racing Team says they are all fixed for todays competition.
Tak Shigematsu says jet lag and clutch problems kept them from running the numbers yesterday. The 16 hour time change has the Japan rider a little drowsy, but he's open to wake up today!
The Competition Motorcycle Team changed cams overnight for the Jack Romine ride. Romine was qualified at #7
Steve Huff says his bike is just fine, I just need to learn how to ride it!(Are you listening Jim??) Huff has put the Goodyear tire back on the bike after giving the Mickey Thompson a try. "We have to get back to what we know. The bike will go exactly where it's pointed, we're just not pointing it in the right direction", he added with a chuckle.
Ken Kent is in the #2 spot and spent s little time replacing a blown transmission overnight.
The team will give the new one a try in today's test and tune.
I stopped by the Pro Stock pits and had a chance to speak with Dan Baisley and Bill Hannon. Hannon says they made a few changes to the bike as they were hoping to do better here. "Hey, we've got to give Baisley's hometown crowd and family a good show", Hannon commented. Hannon also sends along his thanks to everyone involved in getting him and the team here this weekend. He would also like to thank everyone out there for all of their prayers and support.
In the Joker Machine Pro Mod pits, Darren Mauldin says he made a couple of changes to get the machine a little softer and things look good for today. The #1 qualifyer, Cliff Dwy says he's making a few changes too. "We should be in the 30's and we're not", he commented. "We're losing traction on the start, so hopefully we will have that worked out today." Dwy was happy with the fact he's had the #1 qualifying spot at his last four outings.
Rick Maney was making a few repairs after having problems with his starter in Pro Gas compeititon. He wants to make sure that's taking care of so he can back up a 1/8th mile 4.80 record from yesterday!
That's a brief update. Stay tuned for all the action when eliminations begin at 12noon!

We're racing in Woodburn!! JIMS Top Fuel is underway,and a big upset when Dave O'Hara goes out in the opening round. O'Hara ran 3rd alternate, John Bryce and had problems right off the line. Houniet advanced with no problem over Jim Flower..the 1st round numbers coming right up!

Canadian John Bryce advances again after another upset and Ron Houniet advances with consistent 6'80's. This time it was Shigematsu suffering the upset after losing the chain.
DJ Johnson and the Shigematsu team made the long trip to Woodburn hoping to edge closer in the JIMS Top Fuel points. They plan to make the long trip back in time for Delaware competition. Meanwhile, Ron Houniet is padding his point's lead after advancing over Joe Timmons with a 6.824! We have completed round two of JIMS Top Fuel and we are now going back in to Sportsman rounds to catch everyone up for the finals. I'll be back with more numbers at the conclusion of round two.

Harley-Davidson of Frederick riders, Shawn Vantucci and BR Nalley both headed to the finals!
The H-D of Frederick team travled the distance from Maryland and both riders are headed to the finals..Vantucci faces Russ Rockwell in the Super Gas finals and BR Nalley will face Jeff Konnoff in the Super Sport class.
Ron Houniet is no surprise in the JIMS Top Fuel final. He faces fellow Canadian, Jim Gauthier. Big upset in Kresto Pro Drag, when Steve Dorn and the All American Cycle team, upset point's leader Scott Truett. More numbers coming up when round is complete!
