News From The Strip!
Good Morning from The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Sunny skies, a little breezy, and a cool 60 degress are current conditions, and if mother nature continues to cooperate, we can expect a perfect day for racing. (Showers are forecast for the afternoon)
A leaner looking number of participants so far, but a "full house" of competition will be on tap.

Sixteen Nitro Harley's on the roster so far, including, last weeks NHRA exhibition winner, Doug Vancil, Ray Price, RMC Racing with 3 top fuelers, and it looks like Mike Romine will pilot both a Top Fuel and the Pro Fuel ride this weekend. The "yellow bananna" pro fueler ran huge numbers at the NHRA exhibition in Bristol, with Mark Conner aboard, RMC Racing, is looking to get the Pro Feuler in the record books. Also on the roster with two entries, Tim Kerrigan, current Pro Fuel champion. Kerrigan says he plans to continue improving and fine tuning his Top Fuel program this weekend. Chris Streeter traveled 45 hours to make the Pro Fuel roster here at The Strip. The Kerrigan-Streeter duo have been paired in the finals 3 out of 3 of thier past outings.
Don Tilley made the "Tripp" with his V-Rod entry, piloted by Tripp Nobles. Nobles boasted huge 10 second numbers in its first outing in Phoenix, but says elevation will likely play a factor in this weekend's performance.
The drivers meeting is underway, and the sportsman take the track at 9am.

Amazing Nitro Harleys!

Vancil leads the pack and the MPH Record could fall today…
Round One of Screamin' Eagle Nitro Harley was full of ground pounding action, with Ray Price getting in the sixes with a 216.06 mph record pass, followed by another shot at a national mph record from Jack Romine at 214.89. Track conditions appear to be in perfect form, with the wind conditions posing no problems.

Good morning from The Strip. The drivers meeting is underway at this time and Sportsman elimiantions are on tap. I'll be back with a few notes from the pits before we get underway.

Notes From the pits:

Screamin' Eagle Nitro Harley-

#1 qualifyer Vancil says the wind did not affect him in the final round yesterday after getting a bit out of shape. "We spun the tire and just had to wrestle it a little".
The Vance & Hines crew had no changes or repairs from yesterday's qualifying and look to be in fine form for todays eliminations.

From the RMC Racing camp- They couldn't be happier about Jack Romine's Round One performance. Even with a little fish tailing on the quarter mile, Romine was able to pull out a 6.655 at 214.89mph.
Patti Romine says Mike's bike has had a few problems since Bristol, but they think they have it figured out, and should be ready for today's action.
Drums Brancaccio riding for RMC reported an "unhappy clutch", but says he plans to be flying today.

Ray Price Racing extended a huge thanks to a spectator and friend of Bill Chambers, who came to their rescue after the Price machine broke the motor mount, causing him to miss the final round in yesterday's qualifying. The gentleman made the repairs and simply took a few brewskies and soft drinks for payment. Price is all smiles after landing the new Nitro Harley Top Fuel record in the opening round. (216.06)

Ron Houniet had changed his bike to a lock-up clutch and underwent changes in fuel management. Houniet says the learning factor played a part in their less than satisfying numbers. Today the Fast Lane Racing team says they will utilize only a portion of the new program and return to the original plan for todays opening round of eliminations.

Steve Huff had his personal best day in yesterday's qualifying and at Camp Kerrigan the team is thrashing to get a new motor in their Top Fuel ride and after battling it out with the center line cones twice yesterday, Kerrigan is in the #1 spot in Pro Fuel. Andy Z's Top fuel ride had major problems, and the Out of Time Racing Team has loaded the trailer and will sit out todays eliminations. Chicago Joe sits in the alternate spot and says the "Nitro Slug" bike will be ready to step in. "It's a brand new bike, new fuel system and drive line problems", Joe explained. "It's got plenty of horsepower, we just need to figure out where to put it".

JIMS Pro Fuel
Scooter Rajowksi says they have no problems with their bike, however for the third time, problems with the fire-proof sock have caused the flames to ignite and resulting in burns on the Mesa, Arizona riders leg. He made a trip to the ER last night, and things checked out okay. He's bandaged up and ready for eliminations.

Joker Machine Modified
"The Modified guys are having fun". That's what Cliff Dwy's crew and Darren Maulding had to say. "Who would have thought that the second round would be the best of the day", Maulding added. "It was awesome, the track was perfect". Dwy tried something new for 2nd round, and said it didn't work out. Mauldin on the other hand, says he guessed the conditions right!

Kresto Pro Drag
Chuck Jones drove 2300 miles and says he would love to be in the # 1 spot, but is happy with the #2 position. "We're chasing the points and happy to be here". Jones would like to thank Robin and Pete Iaconelli for getting them here.
Steve Dorn had a rough start in yesterday's qualifying. "It was a hard day for us", he explained. "We broke two brand new chain adjusters and managed to hang on for the ride, and we managed to finally get a good run in. The lane choice (right lane) will definitely make the difference today with the wind direction".

Hayes Jewelers Pro Gas
Bad Dave Boss is qualified #5 but says all is well with his bike and he plans to be number one at the end of today's program.
Not so lucky, Mark Biernbaum broke and will be able to make todays eliminations.

S 6 S Pro Stock
Where are you?? Vic Guidera has a message for you.."Cowards". He's joking of course, but says he'll take advantage of the 2 bike only field to gain some points!

Price runs off the big end after a 6.487 at 218 mile per hour pass. He is being transported for evaluation. He went hard into the sand is alert and talking about the pass. We are on competition hold for an undetermined time, while EMT's and clean -up crews get things taken care of. We will be back with an update on Ray's condition and more from eliminations when we return.

Round One Pro's Complete. Latest report on Ray Price is no apparent broken bones, but not confirmed. He had an obvious injury on his right arm, and complaining about his left wrist. Also from the report, lots of road rash. A AHDRA Staff official is at the hospital and and will call in reports as they become available.

Another report from the hospital says Price is okay, and no broken bones or head injuries have been found. He has pain in his shoulder and doctors are still checking that out.
