(Sunday evening post: Update on Steve Moore: Crew members say he was checked out at a near-by hospital and there was nothing broken or seriously injured after his round one engine explosion. He'll no doubt be plenty sore. Hang in there Steve!

Good morning from Rockingham Dragway on a fantastic sunny cool morning. The forecast looks good with a mid 70 high for today's qualifying.
As expected, there's a "full house" in the pits, with a mixed bag of sportsman and pro's, but bottom line...lots of them!
Twenty Nitro Harley's teched in so far.
Qualifying is getting underway with Sportsman and the Pro's are set for first round at 11:00am. There's plenty of fans on hand. They lined the gates in huge numbers with tents, firewood, grills and plenty of food. All set for a great weekend of racing here at The Rock.

Nitro Harleys still at it. Vancil leading the pack with a 6.46 followed by Jay Turner's Bulldog Machine with a 6.542 and Mark Cox with a 654.5. Mark Conner follows in the 4th spot with a 6.660 and Furr is fifth with a 6.69. Jake Silcox is not in the field yet after a firery first round pass. Charley Karlings Sweden team is here, but after a huge boom from the motor in last night's test and tune, he apparently did not have it back in time for round one. Ziggy Stewart came out for Round One, but mechanical problems kept him from making a pass.

Although there we several mechanical delays with a few unwelcomed oil downs, the Screamin’ Eagle Performance Parts Nationals were highlighted by perfect weather, lots of excitement and a hearty crowd, and I was blessed to share it track side with Jim McClure, Phyllis and Betty. He was in fantastic spirits and is an inspiration to everyone who is fortunate enough to know him. He sends his best to all of you. Joining Jim on the track was Ray Price, who also made a heart felt return to the racing action. Price played coach to rider, Wayne Pollack, who took over the pilot position on the Ray Price H-D ride at this weekend’s event. The Price team made a huge debut with Pollack, getting him in the sixes in today’s second round.
A great moment to see Jim and Ray back out there…right where they belong!

Elimination Day at the Rock
Good morning from Rockingham Dragway! It’s elimination day, and we are fortunate to have another beautiful day, with lots of sunshine and mid 70 degree temperatures.

Sixteen sixes was the story in Screamin’ Eagle Nitro Harley. Yesterday’s qualifying session was full of fast-paced action, and if you couldn’t run quicker than 6.921, you found yourself packing it up early.
Bill Furr (#4 qualifyer) says he doesn’t recall a full field of sixes in qualifying before, and a little research could answer that bit of trivia.
It was Doug Vancil ruling the field in the first two rounds with consecutive 6.46’s and that amazing final round 222.66mph pass, but Mark Cox had to give his big group of hometown fans something to cheer about, and he did it with a 6.410 at 194.46 to take the #1 spot.
On the other side of things, the Sweden team of Charley Karling will miss out on the competition after mechanical turmoil. Karling was able to pull out a final round 7.037, but not nearly enough for the show. The team will hang right here in the U.S. to compete at the upcoming JIMS Las Vegas Nationals.

Wayne Pollack was beaming this morning after making the field on the Ray Price Harley-Davidson ride. Pollack said this morning the 6.778 pass was real intense, but it was a real boost to his confidence. Pollack says after being out for five years, it feels good to be back in the seat.

Mark Conner is still wearing that “illegal smile” after last week’s Screamin’ Eagle Nitro Harley exhibition win in Chicago, and he’s smiling bigger with the #1 spot in JIMS Pro Fuel with a 6.655 at 205.91 on the famous flying banana. The Pro Fuel field was every bit as competitive as Top Fuel with five out of eight in the six second zone.
Mike Lehman returned to Pro Fuel action yesterday, but was unable to get in the top eight, however; Sam White has reported that his bike is broke, and that will put Lehman in the alternate position.

Today’s elimination’s are set to begin shortly with Sportsman, and the Pro’s are coming up around 12:15pm.
The first session will consist of Top Fuel,
Hot Street , Super Gas, Super Sport, Super Eliminator, SEP and another ET round.

2nd session at 2:00pm will be all classes.

3rd session is set for 3:30pm with all classes except Pro Stock.

And the finals round for all classes are scheduled for 5:00pm.
(Of course this is the way it will work if the delays are kept at a minimum!

Second Session Update
Round Two of Nitro Harley just wrapping up..Mark Cox advances with a 6.740 over Tracy Kile...Drums gets Tii Tharpe with a 6.678 over Tharpes 6.905..Vancil marches on over Romine (Vancil-6.476 Romime 6.536) and Jay Turner 6.734 takes out Jack Romine's 8.927.
Bradford and Mark Collier will pair up in today's finals of Pro Stock later in the day.
In JIMS Pro Fuel, Mark Conner runs a 6.654 at 07.34mph over Bill Bertolette's 6.898..Russ Hidenbrand had th e win over Steve Simmons, but Hildenbrand made a unplanned trip across the center line, advancing Simmons. Turner moves on with a 6.764 over Mike Lehman and Champion to be-Chris Streeter advances over John Martin.

Session Three..Drums Brancaccio will go to the finals against Vancil his win over Mark Cox while Vancil advanced over Jay Turner. Turner will however still get a final round nod after he advanced in JIMS Pro Fuel to face Mark Conner. Dirk Higgins is headed to the Pro Gas final against Scott Tepper who upset Frank Dove. It will be Junior Pippin and Eddie Lee in the Pro Mod finals.
