Good morning from Denver Colorado's, Bandimere Speedway. The sun is shining with a slight cool morning breeze and preparations are underway for today's qualifying at the Rocky Mountain Nitro Nationals! Despite the unfortunate news of fires in Denver, it is not evident at Bandimere Speedway, as the fire and smoke are 30 miles or more to the east. Qualifying will kick off at 10:30am..as of this report the Top Fuel count was around 10 or more, including Canandians, Dave O'Hara, Ron Houniet and Ken Kent. Also teched in, Kristine Becker, Steve Heidner, Steve Huff, Steve Ruggerio, Joe Timmons, Jack Romine and Sonny Michalowski! Mike Lehman has taken over the Pro Fuel points and is here to hold on to the lead. Tim Kerrigan is here too and anxious to get the Red Line Oil Machine back in the Championship chase.
Steve Dorn and the Black Attack team are looking for another West Coast win, coming off thier Pro Drag win in Roswell, N.M. They will face competitors, Scott Truett, Toni Froehling and more.
Where's Tom Bradford?? We haven't seen him yet. Perhaps with his more than comfortable margin in points, he's sitting this one out..it's still early here. So far, it's John Hammock and Dano Manderfeld entered in the Pro Stock ranks.
The West Coast brings out the Pro Gas competitors..so far Stan Sheppard, Mark Biernbaum, Daron Jemison, Gene Thomason, Bad Dave Boss and Jon Percy are entered!
The Joker Machine Modifieds are rolling in, with leader Mike Lozano, John Hammock, Kurt Matte, Cliff Dwy, Geoff Arnorld, just to name a few.
Team Lummus has made the trip to compete and maintain a healthy points lead in Spyke Street Pro, but Earl Burley, Randy Borho, Rod Cavanaugh and John West are looking for the trophy in Denver!
Naturally, the Sportsman racers are filling the pits with all the favorites! The Rivera-Primo Super Gas entries are on the rise, with Brett Degood,Dan Dalke,Shawn Vantucci and plenty more coming. The Blackfoot Racing team headed up by Cal Percy is making their mark in several classes of competition this weekend along with another multiple class contender John Burdynski. Final Qualifying Complete..O'Hara thrills crowd with a 198.99..Not a 200mph pass..but hey..we're in DENVER! It lands him the #1 spot. After a shake up with the ladder, we are facing an 8 bike field in JIMS Top Fuel. (Mike Bahnmaier withdrew from the Top Fuel field after 2nd round, and entered his Pro Fuel bike. Chaz O'Neil never qualified..leaving only 13 bikes!) We will put on a shoot-out for the non-qualifers in both Top Fuel & Modified on Sunday as time allows! All the scoop to follow in the morning, but for now, I'm signing off early (for a change)and headed to visit the pits to gather that scoop!

Elimination Day at Bandimere Speedway!
Good morning from Bandimere Speedway. We are back for Elimination day under sunny warm skies. The latest update (aka-scoop) from the pits and the AHDRA tech officials: After lengthy discussions following yesterday's qualifying concerning the ladder shake up in Top Fuel, a meeting has been scheduled for 9:30am this morning with a top fuel representative from each team. At this time, a decision will be made on today''s field ..Eight ..or run them all?? The questionable outcome came after Bahnmaier withdrew from the Top Fuel class and entered Pro Fuel. At the time, that still left 14 bikes. However, Chaz O'Neil was unable to make a qualifying pass, which left 13 bikes. (O'Neil made a pass, but crossed the line which DQ'd the pass-he broke in the water box on a 2nd attempt and skipped one round) Are you still with me?? Top Fuel riders (qualified or not) feel that because 14 bikes entered the class, they should run all 13 bikes, however the rule is intended to read the 14 bikes must be qualified. So at 9:30am the Top Fuel riders will meet, and the outcome is to be announced! A real cliff -hanger uh? Whatever the outcome of today's ruling is, a rulebook clarification will be in the works immediately to clear up any misinterpretations in the future regarding this matter.
So despite all this, Dave O'Hara says.."I don't care who runs..hell run them all. I got the number one spot!" That he does, with a 7.139, not too bad for Denver air. O"Hara also holds the top mile-per-hour at 198.99, a track record. Ron Houniet is in the #2 position with a 7.242. Keep your eyes out for a possible all Canadian final here in Denver!
In Pro Fuel, pending the outcome of the Top Fuel decision, it will affect the ladder here also, if Bahnmaier is re-instated into Top Fuel. (We'll see..let's not go there again yet) In either case..the Pro Fuelers will all run with a low 4 entries. Mike Lehman has nothing to complain about, he won his first race last week in Norwalk and holds the #1 spot heading into today's elimiantions, with an impressive 7.454. Bahnmaier is in at #2, (for now) and the Girls Kick Butt/Reality Motorsports team, piloted by Kristine Becker is third. Champion, Tim Kerrigan began his winning streak here at Bandimere last year. It was a sweet cruise to the championship for the Red Line Oil team following his Denver win. So what's up with them this year? "We had a bike running consistent 6.80 passes", Kelly Kerrigan stated. But this year, you have to weigh the decision; Do you keep the bike as is and settle, or try some new things and suffer the consequences in the effort to go faster?? The Kerrigan camp appears to have decided on the later of the two, and their determination will no doubt have them back in the winner's circle soon!
Time to go to that "meeting" I mentioned earlier..stay tuned for the outcome and all the results from today's eliminations!
The verdict is in..run them all! After further review and mutual agreement, Mike Bahnmaier will be re-inserted into the Top Fuel ladder, which makes the 14 bike ladder complete. (The final qualifying order for Top Fuel and Pro Fuel has been revised and posted above.) Now that's settled..let's go racing! A little test and tuning is the latest here, and what a site as over 1,000 riders gathered here for the Miracle Ride of The Rockies, to benefit the MDA! The ride will return here to Bandimere around 12 noon to catch today's elimination's! More to come later!
Round One is almost complete..here's the numbers so far..SEP class and ET still to go!
