Back from Thunder In the Valley and round two sportsman qualifying is underway, and the pros are coming up soon. Sunshine has filled the skies, and plenty of fans are on hand for the action.
A couple of notes from the pits- Fred Collis is here on the brand new
S & S-Star Cycle ride giving it a run in Rivera Primo Street Pro competition.
Mark Conner is a reuglar fuel competitor, but this weekend he is piloting a Gene Lummus HD Street Pro ride. No scoop yet on that entry. Lummus is in the # 2 spot in Street Pro action, riding with a broken hand this weekend. Nick Gonatas is the current #1 qualifyer heading into round two. More coming after the round.

No word on the name of the person involved, but more info will be posted asap on that.

Elimination Day!
Good morning from Bristol Dragway. The early morning is kicking off with test and tune rounds. Temps are cool and the fog is beginning to lift. A full day is ahead with big fields in sportsman, and good Pro fields too. Yesterday's qualifying provided plenty of thrills for the great crowd, and the excitement went into the night with two bands, campfires, lots of food on the grill and a good time for all.
We'll be back later with round one news from the S & S Cycle Thunder In the Valley Nationals presented by Smith Brothers Harley-Davidson!

Vancil opens the big show with a 6.581 over Tommy Sloan..Jay Turner and Team Bulldog going to round number next...Mark Cox and Team Bojangles advance over Comunal...The Romine Brothers go at it in round one and Big Brother Mike moves on with a lot of sixes(6.666 at 212.09)...Stordeur moves forward, while fellow teammate, Mancuso packs up for the day courtesy of Mark Conner..Drums coming back after a win over Steve Moore and rookie no more..Tii Tharpe runs his best with a 6.661 at 214.72 over BILL FURR! Tharpe received a little nitro tutoring from the Orangeburg Cycle veteran fueler, and it appears Furr is quite the teacher! Here are the numbers from a fantastic opening round in Nitro Harley! Coming up in Round One will be TF, PD, PM, SP, HS,SG,SS,SE,SEP and ET! Rounds include a mix of classes to get all classes to the finals together.
Back with more later.

Track almost dry and we are calling them to the lanes to resume eliminations. ET bikes were running when the rains came, so we will pick them back up where we left off and then's it round two pro competition. The forecast is not too promising, but we are hoping for the best.
It is now 5:00pm (est) and just ready for round two, so a long night could be ahead.
The Nitro Harleys were standing by in the lanes before the rain came, and I had a moment to speak with Tii Tharpe who informed me, the race computer is out on the bike, and Team 911 has been basically blind tuning today. "Furr helped us out in Budd's Creek, and he's still kind of holding our hand this weekend, but he's busy himself, so we are on our own", Tharpe explained. I asked him how it felt to face his teacher at the end of the track after beating him, and Tharpe said he was a little worried a punch would be thrown, but instead Furr told the Goldsboro, NC rider there would be an increased mark up coming for parts!
Tii says, with help from Furr and Rex Harris, they have made the bike easy to tune. Furr put in the fuel system and clutch, and it's a McClure Overkill Motor.
Next up for Tharpe in round two is another veteran , Steve Stordeur. Stay tuned to see the outcome of that match-up and more from Bristol Dragway. Put the coffee on..a long evening ahead!

We were back at it and the skies opened up again. We did get in a few more pro rounds before the weather took over and here's where we left off.

RAIN RAIN AND MORE RAIN
It is now approaching 7:45pm and the rain continues. In AHDRA's efforts to fight to the finish..the radar is being closely examined to determine any possibility of continuing the event. It does not look promising..and there are no plans to run on Monday. Stay tuned for the final call on this weekend's event.

Update at 8:21pm. The rain has stopped, and the track staff is making attempts to dry the track. It is not clear if it can be dried and they do have a 1:00am curfew here at Bristol Dragway. It will take at least 2 hours to dry the track IF it can be dried- so here we go. More on the situation later.
When the storm came, the tower shut off the computers and timing equipment, but they did get these round three ET results printed. Rivera Primo Street Pro had finished another round also, and as soon as the tower system is rebooted, we'll let you know the outcome of that round.
Here are those Syn3 ET numbers.

9:53pm Update- Craig, Bill and the AHDRA crew are driving trucks up and down the track to assist with the drying process and they are making progress.
Last word is that it could be 11:00pm before we are back in action.
I will be heading back to North Carolina by then and we will have the outcome of AHDRA Marathon racing-Act 2 tomorrow.
Another Fight to the finish coming up!

Efforts to Dry the Track and Beat the curfew force the event to end incompleted.
Points will be awarded upto racers current position. And purse remaining for positions in each class will be split between racers still in the show.
