Good morning from Bristol Dragway! Qualifying is underway with sunny 80 degree temps! Over 200 bikes teched in last night, and the entries are rolling in. 300 plus expected to compete this weekend! The West Coast makes it's biggest appearance ever at an East Coast event, with Dave O"Hara, Ron Houniet traveling 50 hours for a JIMS Top Fuel battle of points! Steve Huff made the trip from Seattle, and John McMillin and Cliff Dwy are here from Oregon. That's a few, and lots more are teching in!

Back from Bristol Dragway..Round One is complete and its Bill Furr in the top dog spot
in JIMS Top Fuel. Furr's 6.974 at 203.86 miles-per-hour was a welcome site after a
shaky round one for others. Announcer Sean Leary sums it up best.."It was a ground
poundin', fuel guzzling, tire punishin round one"! Two of those "tire punishers" came
from Seattle's Steve Huff and Hell Racing's Dave O'Hara. O'Hara's tire smoking round
one, left him in the 14th spot. Ron Houniet had big problems at the launch sending him
close to the center line, so the #1 and #2 points leaders will have to make the east coast
tune for Round Two. Other news, with over 20 Top Fuelers here, some have yet to make
a pass and may not get to! Drums Brancaccio was scheduled to make his inaugural run
with Mitch Marlowe's Top Fuel team, but reports a blown transmission will keep him out
of this weekend's field. Mark Cox made a round one appearance, but officials report he made contact with the center line and his round
one pass was DQ'd. No worry Cox says..he's got something for Round Two!!
Pro Gas rider, Anne Phipps was injured after riding off the big end. She's been transported to a Bristol hospital. She was complaining of leg and shoulder pain, but was
alert and speaking with EMT's. We will forward any further info..Hang in there Anne!

Round Two is now complete, and the numbers are coming up shortly..The air was very good to the fuelers and Mark Cox made good on his promise..he's now our #1 qualifyer! Houniet and O'Hara came back in a big way and Furr drops one spot to #2.

Welcome to Elimination Day at the Smith Brother's Harley-Davidson Thunder In The Valley Nationals presented by Southeastern Bonding!
Yesterday was a spectacular day here at Bristol Dragway! Fans were treated to hours of the best Harley Drag Racing you could ask for!
In JIMS Top fuel, it was that yellow flyin chicken(Mark Cox-Team Bojangles) taking the #1 spot with his 6.722 at 198.50 miles-per-hour followed by Canadian, Ron Houniet in the #2 spot. The West Coast boys were struggling earlier yesterday, but have recovered well to make the full 16 bike field. Huff said it was just tire smokin and more tire smokin. "We've got it ready for today though, so don't count us out yet." On a cultural note, it's official…the South is wearing on Huff…He has now been overheard using the word "ya'll"!
After Sam White took a first win at the AHDRA Budd's Creek Race, he's back with a plan here in Bristol with Tony Mattioli lending a hand again. White holds the #1 spot with Lehman in at #2.
Worth the drive so far for Cliff Dwy, who holds the #1 spot in Joker Machine Pro Modified competition..very impressive with a full 16 bike field!!

In Pro Stock, John Hammock is out front with Dirk Higgins in the #2 spot. Dale Raudenbush is third and would be thrilled to take home a back to back win, following his first Pro Stock victory at MIR.

Frank Dove holds the reigns in Pro Gas, but I heard through the "pit grapevine" that the bike is hurt and he will not make today's eliminations, although he's the #1 one man! Ken Browne's back and he holds the #2 spot in qualifying.

No surprises in Pro Drag, with Scott Truett leading the pack and the next episode of "As the Street Pro Turns" is set, with Lummus and Morrow in the #1 and #2 spot respectively.

The bikes are set to stage at 12:30pm, so stay tuned for the scoop later.

Update..We are still running strong here at Bristol Dragway! With the large field of Sportsman and full fields in Pro's the schedule has been modified to get everyone to the finals together. Round Two was full of upsets as O'Hara and Houniet were both sent to the trailer early. Mark Cox may have hurt the motor in his round two pass, but the team is thrashing to get it together for the semi-round appearance. More to come later..
