Stone Mountain Harley-Davidson Southern Nationals!
Good morning from Atlanta Dragway!Sportsman Qualifying has begun under cloudy skies. Temps are expected to reach 79 degrees with no rain in the forecast. An unexpected shower and existing wet track conditions forced officials to cancel last night's test and tune, but the track is dry and so far things are looking good for a action packed day of qualifying. The pits are jammed with nearly 300 racers ready to take the track.
We'll be back a little later with numbers from Round one.

Sunshine takes over and Vancil is hot again!
Top Fuel qualifying is on hold after oil from Brian Jernigans ride forces a track clean up, but the first half was a crowd pleaser with 6 seconds passes and Vancils 6.521 is currently the #1 spot. Here's a look at round one numbers in other classes, and once Top Fuel resumes, we'll be back with the round one order.
Track officials still working on the oil down which has a exciting round one on hold.
Right now, Vancil in the #1 spot and Steve Stordeur is in the 2nd seat with a 6.532.
Teammate-Johnny Mancuso came off the trailer with a 6.638, Jack Romine ran a 6.637 and it was a 6.664 for Jay Turner who is here with two rides this weekend, one in Top Fuel and a Pro Fuel entry.

Comeback for Mark Cox!
The Pros are complete and Sportsman are still running..lots of bikes..even in the Juniors. Check out their not so pint sized field! Elimination Day!
Sunny skies and great racing at Atlanta Dragway! That's the story here as we gear up for eliminations at 12:30pm. The sportsman are already in action to narrow the fields down to sixteen. A pro test and tune follows and then the big show.

A brief visit to the Bojangles rig and Mark Cox Racing this morning had plenty of smiles coming from the crew after struggling in qualifying.
The "Thunder Chicken" made a big comeback in the final round. Absent from the crew is Bernie Lee this weekend while he participates in the Ride to The Wall in D.C. When asked if that was part of the problem yesterday, the team replied with a chuckle and admitted they did speak with Bernie via phone moments before the successful final round run. Guess they DO miss you Bernie! Cox starts the day in the #3 spot, and says problems with the clutch pressure plate was the real culprit in yesterdays qualifying. They have it all fixed and ready to go!

Chris Streeter took his bump by Jay Turner in yesterday's final Pro Fuel round with a grain of salt. "We always have the best runs against each other", Streeter replied. "We were side by side the whole way, and he (Turner) pulled away from me. Today's competition should be full of excitement and tight runs on the quarter mile.
