3:20pm-
The ProÕs have completed the 2nd session of todayÕs
eliminationÕs. We are now running
two rounds of several sportsman classes and we should be right on time or close
to it for todayÕs finals at 5:00pm!
3:00pm
The 2nd
session of ProÕs begins shortly.
We are about an hour off schedule following a few clean-upÕs. The Outlaw category is currently
running and Top Fuel is one deck!
The results will follow the round on the ladder page.
1:30pm
Pro opening
rounds are now complete. We are
down for a bit of track prep and then we will resume eliminations with
sportsman classes.
A very nice crowd is here at Tri State and they were treated to an
exciting opening Pro session.
Check out the numbers on the ladder pages.
11:45am
Track prep is
underway for the start of todayÕs show t 12:30pm. The skies are clear and the sun is shining. Track temp reads 109 currently which is
not bad considering last week Tri-State reported 140 degree track temps.
Back with more following the completion of todayÕs opening Pro
rounds.
9:30am
Good morning
from Earlville, IA. We are under
sunny and slightly warmer temperatures today forecasted in the mid 80Õs. (The
track temp is currently 95). We
have just over 270 entries competing today at the
S & S
Midwest Nationals presented by the Mid West Harley-Davidson Dealers.
The sportsman
bikes are on the track this morning to narrow down the fields before the
opening ceremonies that begin at 12:30pm today.
We will carry the results on the live update ladder pages today
and will check in here with any breaking news or race delays. The dial-up connection is
painfully slow here today. IÕll
get the postings up as quick as technically possible.
Sportsman
qualifying final wrap:
Stephen
GalatiÕs opening round 8.87 stuck for the #1 spot in Casa Bella X-Mod. (Galati
is dominating this 06-limited run class).
Dan DeGood
steps up to the starting line tomorrow as the #1 qualifier in Syn3 ET with his
round one .001 that held for the day.
A total of 65 entries battled it out at the tree today for the best
reaction title.
DeGood was
outside of the SEP field after the 2nd round session, but rebounded
nicely in the final round for the 18th spot. It was Greg Best who got the pole in
SEP with his earlier 11.508 that slid Penny Nichols to the 2nd
spot. Hyper Liz Davis and SW
Seneca grabbed double 11.514Õs for the 3rd and 4th spots
at the end of the day.
Robbie McCaa
ran his best of the day in the SSC 124 final (9.53/142mph) to finish on top in
front of Mike Roberts who finished 2nd.
Michael Ray may
be struggling today in his championship class- SSC124 (finishing in the 3rd
spot), but he just shook things up on the V-Rod Destroyer line-up with a 9.28
in the final to oust L.E. Tonglet from the #1 spot and into 2nd.
Lou Gerencer
ran his best at the end of the day in ScreaminÕ Eagle V-Rod with a 9.35 at
144mph to maintain the #1 qualifying spot and Larry Edmondson stayed in the 2nd
spot. Jamie McNaughton made a nice
climb up the chart to the 3rd spot in the final round.
In Rucker
Performance Super Gas (9.70 index) Wanda Poff took control of things with a
9.703 in the 2nd round that held on for the #1 qualifying spot. Giving it a close run to catch her was
Andy Horn (9.704), Tom Ocasio (9.705), Derek Drown (9.707) and Billy Joe
BowmanÕs 9.708.
Joining Wanda
on the starting line for the #1 qualifyer intros is fellow lady-racer, Roberta
Seaman who came away with a 10.906 in the Performance Corner Super Eliminator
final round-moving Dean Druschel to the 2nd spot. Eleanor Walker was 3rd best
with a 10.920 at the end of the day.
ThatÕs a wrap
from Earlville, IA from a pleasant day of racing hosted by a very hospitable staff
at Tri State Raceways and brought to us by S & S Cycle and the Mid West
Harley Davidson dealers. Good night.
4:40pm
Sportsman Final
Rounds now underway after a delay for repairs to the tree.
Final
Round Qualifying-Pros
Jay Turner and
Team Mancuso flex their power in the final Screamin Eagle Nitro Harley session
with a 6.510 at 204mph to take over the #1 qualifying spot. Mike Romine keeps the 2nd
spot with his opening round 6.56 lap.
Mike Lehman came out big in the final- improving with the 6.59 at 206mph
for the 3rd spot.
Mike
Kirkpatrick of Rockford, IL stole the 8th and final position from
Tracy Kile who now sits in the first alternate position. Also sitting on the outside (a rare
occurrence) is Bill Furr, Drums Brancaccio and Tak Shigematsu.
Willie
Herschberger pulls the number that counted most out in the final lap of the
day with a 7.478 at 172mph for the
top position. Greg Byrnes and
Terry Stewart who both had the pole themselves today finished 2nd
and 3rd respectively.
Simon goes quicker
at the end in G2 Street Pro (8.74) and keeps the top spot. Johnson improves again as well (9.045)
and keeps the 2nd spot and King is 3rd with the 9.092
best.
Junior Pippin
lands his fastest of the day in the final (8.212) and the order remains- Pippin,
Caldwell and Raudenbush in Samson Pro Mod.
In JIMS Pro
Fuel, Breckenridge holds on to the magic number (6.808) from round one with
Armon Furr keeping the #2 spot.
Jack Romine who
spent the first two sessions at the bottom of the order, improved enough in the
final lap for the 3rd position. (7.198).
Chris Streeter
improved his earlier number with a 8.580 that left him in the #6 position
today.
Final round for
Pro Gas will come later. A re-run
is on tap for Lozano and Sternotti after tree problems for them in the final
lap.
3:30pm
3rd
and final round qualifying is now underway for all classes.
Results coming up following the completed round.
2:39pm
Racing has
resumed following the brief rain delay.
Mike Romine fell off the pace in the 2nd session with a
8.485, but still holds the pole with his round one 6.56. Jay Turner improved with a 6.61 at
207mph to take the 2nd spot from Timmons who moved to 3rd. Tommy Grimes who was shut off after his
burnout for the untimely rain shower came out later, but did not improve his
earlier 6.74 and is now 4th.
Doug Vancil had a better run the 2nd time out and takes
the 5th spot with a 6.80 at 203mph and Dean Comunal picked up the
pace as well with a 6.83 at 196mph for the 6th spot. Mike Lehman and Tracy Kile round out
the 8 qualifiers so far.
Veterans, Drums Brancaccio and Tak
Shigematsu are not yet qualified with one shot left.
2:15pm- Rain
Delay has us on hold.
Round Two ProÕs- All the ProÕs have completed a 2nd
session with the exception of Top Fuel which was interrupted by showers. It appears to be a passing shower and
we hope to be back up running soon.
In G-Squared Street Pro, Andy Simon entered the 8 sec zone in his
2nd session to keep hi stop spot with an 8.966 at 155mph. Zach Johnson improved with a 9.215 and
moves up to the 2nd spot.
Junior Pippin improved in Samson Pro Mod round 2 qualifying with a
8.261 at 156mph to hold his lead with Caldwell and Raudenbush making up the
three-bike field. ???
John Breckenridge sat the 2nd session of JIMS Pro Fuel
out but his 6.80 from the opening round keeps him out front. Armon Furr did not improve in round 2,
but still sits in the 2nd spot. Chris Streeter made his first attempt at the ¼ mile
in todayÕs 2nd session, but a troubled 11.905 leaves him in the 6th
spot of the 6-bike field.
Terry Stewart jumped to the head of the class in Kresto Pro Drag
with a better 7.721 at 164mph.
Round one leader, Greg Byrnes moved to the 2nd spot. Gary Stroud is now 3rd with
a 7.826 best. Willie Herschberger
had better luck the 2nd time and gets in the 5th
spot. Not happy with his round one
performance (8.40), Rick Moore pulled his entry and entered a replacement in
the 2nd session.
Unfortunately, the new entry was no help and Moore is at the end of the
pack with an 12.531 best.
Raudenbush and Lozano are still one and two in S & S Pro Gas
with 7.56 and 7.57 numbers. Lozano improved his earlier 7.60 but not enough to
take the top spot.
Racing has resumed and we will pick back up
shortly with round 2 of the sportsman qualifying session.
Round Two-Update 1:45pm
The 2nd session has been completed for X-Mod, ET,
Destroyer, SEP and Hot Street. We
will now cut in and go back to Pro Qualifying. We will resume sportsman classes beginning with Super
Eliminator following Round 2 Pro Qualifying.
Round One ProÕs: 12:20pm Update:
Andy Simon off to a start on top again with a 9.070 at 156.53 pass
for the top spot.
Danny Worth of Missouri came away with the #2 spot (9.232) while
Jeff King grabbed
#3 at 9.368/148.84mph.
Zach Johnson stuttered at the start and had smoke from the tire to
finish in the 5th spot with his 9.747 at 150.83mph. Hyper Liz Davis had a troubled start
with a 10.336 to round out the five-bike field.
Junior Pippin, Tom Caldwell and Dale Raudenbush make up the trio
of a small Pro Mod field and they respectively qualified in that order.
Greg Byrnes and the Mile High H-D team ran a 7.807 at 164.13 or
the top spot in Pro Drag in front of Terry StewartÕs 7.828 at 163.33mph for the
2nd spot.
Dale Raudenbush(7.565) and Mike Lozano (7.609) are #1 and #2 in
the Pro Gas field after one session.
John Breckenridge came away with the only 6 second number in Pro
Fuel qualifying, his 6.808 at 198.47mph was good enough for the #1 spot in
front of Armon FurrÕs 7.034 at 192.49mph for the 2nd spot.
Doug Vancil drew smoke from the tire in round one of Top Fuel-
Dean Comunal threw a part from his machine at the big end- Tracy Kile and Tak
Shigematsu both had slow starts; Tommy Grimes came off the trailer with a 6.74
at 213mph and Joe Timmons landed a 6.68 at 212mph before Mike Romine blistered
the track with a 6.56 at 216mph and took the top spot. Bill Furr was in the lane and ready to
fire when the team was met with a big bang. No one was hurt and the Orangeburg Cycle team will return to
the pit and make the needed repairs for the next session.
The ProÕs are wrapped for the opening round
and we return to Sportsman qualifying with X-Mod and ET. Results will follow the completion of
the round. (Reminder- we are on
dial-up connection here- which is forcing us to delay our postings a bit).
11am Update:
Syn 3 ET qualifying netted 57 entries for the opening round and
Dan DeGoodÕs .001 put him at the top of the pack while a .002 for Dan Norlin
gives him the 2nd position.

In V-Rod Destroyer competition, itÕs L.E. Tonglet (GTÕs brother)
at the top of the chart after one session with a 9.286 at 142.19mph best. The
only Ō20Ķ number of the round.
G.T. is here taking in the action trackside.

spot.
A local racer, Kevin Markham of Strawberry Point, IA grabbed the
top spot in Super Sport with a 10.386 in front of champion, Julia HollidayÕs
10.421.
The sportsman classes are nearly completed
and the numbers for their rounds can be found on the result pages. The pros are on deck and the results
will follow after the entire round is completed.
Good morning from Tri State Raceway. We are just one hour away from the start of todayÕs three
qualifying sessions under very pleasant sunny skies. The temps are forecasted
for the low 80Õs today with a small chance of afternoon showers.
Just a reminder from yesterday: We are operating the race result updates on a long distance
–dial-up connection that is also the trackÕs main phone line. Our plans are to post results after the
completion of a round instead of after each class. We will post sportsman info after they are completed with a
round and post again after the proÕs finish a round. If there are track delays of any kind, we will update
you on that as well and post any results we have during the delay.
Thank you for your patience and hopefully the delay in postingÕs
will be minimal.
Results from Sportsman round one will follow
after the session is completed.
Good afternoon from Tri State Raceways in Earlville, Iowa.
We are currently under rainy conditions and it appears that
todayÕs test and tune will be cancelled. The forecast looks good for the
weekend, with seasonably low temps expected (79-81) and sunny skies.
Early prediction for racer turnout looks to be around 230-250 out
here where the views include corn and more corn!!
Although the location of Tri State Raceway is remote, it appears
to be a fine facility with an all-concrete ¼ mile, and a good group of
track folks.
Clay Wilwert along with 19 other dealers around Iowa have come
together and worked very hard at promoting this weekendÕs event. We thank them along with S & S
Cycle for the support.
Regarding Tri State being remotely located, please note this
important info:
Our
normal reliable wireless internet services are not available out here in
Earlville. We are operating on a
dial-up connection that is run off of the main track phone line.
Our plans
are to post round results after a full session is completed instead of posting
at the end of each class. So far the connection is working well, but we canÕt
tie up the track phone for an extended amount of time. ($$$).
If there are lengthy track delays for
weather or clean ups, we will post that info as well.
Should we
encounter any problems with the transmission of reports here at the track , we
will certainly post any missing info at the end of the day from our hotel which
is fully hi-speed accessible.
Your patience in advance is appreciated. Being technically challenged comes with the territory in this neck
of the woodsÉ.(make that corn)!
Stay tuned for the results following each
completed session of tomorrowÕs qualifying which kicks off at 9am with X-Mod
racing.
