Presented by Drag Specialties

April 22nd & 23rd

6:00pm

Finals at the Rucker Performance Lone Star Nationals have now been completed in exciting finishes for many! All results are posted on the ladder pages.

In wrapping up, we would like to mention that the latest from Steve DornÕs camp is in between calling to check on the scores here at the track- he is resting at the hospital facility in Dallas.  He is expected to be released on Tuesday according to the last report.  We will provide an address for well wishes on Talk Shop once Steve confirms where he would like those sent!

Good night from Texas Motorplex!

4:47pm- We are narrowing down the semi finals now and should be ready for the finals at approximately 5:30pm..Stay tuned!

3:00pm  Eliminations continue from Texas Motorplex with a nice spectator turnout on hand.  The first session of eliminations were interrupted prior to finishing the sportsman for a 2nd round of Top Fuel. Please note that eliminations are run in varied order according to the size of the fields to put everyone in the finals together.

Updates are being tracked on the ladder pages following the rounds.  Stay tuned there for the latest numbers.

1:27pm

Oil down in Pro Gas causes small track delay..should be back up in about 15 minutes.

1:00pm  Eliminations are fired up.  Top Fuel almost complete.  The #1 qualifyer, Tommy Grimes is upset by a struggling Mike Lehman.  Lehman smoked the tire big, but Grimes was having problems of his own and let off early as Lehman pulled ahead of him.  Grimes ran a record speed time (223.28mph) in yesterdayÕs qualifying, but will miss the opportunity to back it up after the first round loss.

Stay tuned to the ladder pages today for the results.  We will report back here with any breaking news or delays.

10:15am

Sportsman rounds still running.  Another update on Steve Dorn.  His crew stopped in the tower to say that Steve says he is feeling a little better since his surgery but his arm still hurts quite a bit.  No word on when he will be released.

The crew reviewed the tape in the tower of the accident and said it appeared the bike was headed left before the finish- similar problem they had in Phoenix.

As a lot of the hard-core racers seem to do- Dorn asked to see his time slip before being transported!

YesterdayÕs Top Fuel qualifying wrapped up with Tommy Grimes taking his 2nd consecutive #1 qualifying spot in Top Fuel competition.  His 6,594 from round #2 put in just I front of Champion, Mike RomineÕs 6.611.

Fans may have noticed Dale Nungesser on the Top Fuel roster.  Nungesser came out in yesterdayÕs 2nd round of qualifying with a 7.431 at 173.54mph.

Since NungesserÕs accident years ago in Denver, he had returned to AHDRA racing in the Pro Drag category, but marked a return to Top Fuel yesterday and taking the 11th spot in the field.

A very notable performance yesterday from veteran, Bill Furr.  Furr who is on a  comeback from his accident 2-years ago appears more focused than ever.  That accident happened right here at Texas Motorplex and Furr saddled the Orangeburg Cycle machine in that very lane he suffered the tire exploding crash in for his first pass of the weekend.  He is qualified 6th with his 6.824 at 201.40mph.

Furr and Nungesser are paired for todayÕs opening round of eliminations at 12:30pm.

Sunday Eliminations- 9:24am

Good morning from Texas Motorplex.  Early eliminations for the sportsman classes will get underway shortly to narrow the fields for todays official kick off at 12:30pm.

HereÕs a review of yesterdayÕs final qualifying finish in the Sportsman categories:

Cleve McConnell held on to his top spot in Syn3 ET after his perfect .000 and also grabbed the top spot in DragMasters Hot Street competition- moving Dan Norlin and Mike Roberts down a spot after both had held the top spot themselves in previous rounds.

Stephen Galati took the #1 qualifier spot in the debut of Casa Bella X-Mod and doubled up his pole position recognition with the top spot in Performance Corner Super Eliminator.  After all-he IS the 05 Rookie of the Year and proving his title.

Tripp Nobles is back on the starting line in Texas to repeat back to back #1 qualifying positions in the Screamin Eagle Destroyer class on his Las Vegas Harley-Davidson sponsored entry.

Allen Fong hung on as #1 qualifier for all 3 rounds of S & S Super Sport with his nicely done 10.300.  Julia Holliday was close behind in 2nd with her 10.301.

Michael Ray put himself back in the top qualifier position in S&S 124 racing with his 9.515 at 139.24mph pass.

Larry Edmondson Jr. held on to the ScreaminÕ Eagle V-Rod pole on his Eagle Harley-Davidson ride.

Champion Donnie Huffman was the SEP qualifying top gun with a 11.502 for the #1 spot.

Valerie Thompson is full of smiles today.  Thompson missed the chance at her first win in AHDRA competition at the Phoenix race when she failed to make the call for her final round.  Today she steps on the starting line for #1 qualifier recognition in the Rucker Performance Super Gas field with a 9.705 from yesterdayÕs rounds- just edging out Tom OcasioÕs 9.706.  Valerie is piloting a

V-Rod Destroyer sponsored by Hacienda Harley-Davidson out of Scottsdale, AZ.

And following up on yesterdayÕs report on Steve DornÕs injuries from his top end crash in Top Fuel qualifying.  Dorn underwent orthopedic surgery on his arm last night and so far has been reported to be doing satisfactory at the Methodist Central Medical Center in Dallas, TX.

Stay tuned for results today on the live update ladder pages.  Opening ceremonies get underway at 12:15pm, followed by ScreaminÕ Eagle Top Fuel leading off the Pro eliminations at 12:30pm.  (ThatÕs central time).

8:00pm (central time)

All classes are completed and results posted for all three rounds. Tune in tomorrow for eliminations at the Rucker Performance Lone Star Nationals presented by Drag Specialties.

6:35pm

Final qualifying well underway and concluded for the Pro Classes.  We will now resume final round for the Sportsman classes.

Final round notes:

In G2 Street Pro, Andy Simon slowed to a 9.025, but maintains the top spot.

Zach Johnson ran his best of the day (9.18) for the #2 spot.

In Samson Pro Modified, Junior Pippin had already taken the#1 spot in the 2nd round and comes back in the final round with his best shot of the day (8.275 at 153.04mph) to keep that top spot.

In Kresto Pro Drag Willie Herschberger pulled off a move seen in the 2005 season.  He Drag Master himself- withdrew his bike from the category after 2 rounds and was in the 9th spot and out of the show.  In round three, he entered a new ride and it paid off with his best lap of the day at 7.625/169.61mph for the #5 spot.  Unfortunately for Howard Wiggins, it put him in that 9th spot –not qualified.

In S & S Pro Gas Dale Raudenbush claimed the #1 spot (7.505) while Dave Feazell who ran his best of the day on the Jon Miller tuned bike (7.676) finished at #2.

Mike Lozano struggled down the track in his 3rd and final lap of the day, but came away with the #5 spot at the end of the day.

From the Karen Wagner camp- Wagner made a pass in the opening round that was good enough to get her the #6 spot, but was in search of a welder following the round.  She found a nearby welder and all bets are the crew is working to get the Phoenix-winning Buell ready for tomorrowÕs show.

In JIMS Pro Fuel- Chris Streeter owns the #1 spot  while Armon Furr stayed consistently in the #2 spot.  John Breckenridge is not yet in the field, but will have one final shot after regular sessions due to his opponent crossing in front of him earlier today.  We will post the revised order should BreckenridgeÕs rerun change things.

In ScreaminÕ Eagle Top Fuel. Tommy Grimes stayed at the top with is earlier 6.594 after clicking it off early in the final run.

Bill Furr and Doug Vancil paired for their final runs and both coasted through the traps.  Mike Romine didnÕt improve on his final run but grabs the #2 spot.

Mike Lehman is still struggling with his Top Fuel ride, but will get in the field in the 16th spot.  Lehman got across the center line in the last round and way close to Jack Romine who qualified 5th.

Back to the result pages for more numbers.  We are a few classes away from concluding todays show.

4:27pm

Official report from the Team Latus H-D team on Steve Dorn.  ÒHe had no major or life threatening injuriesÓ.  He does however have a broken arm and hand.

Dorn says the bike went left on him but did not indicate a cause. Dorn will be kept overnight at the Dallas medical facility.

Thanks to the crew for updating us.

Round two qualifying wrapped up in Top Fuel with Tommy Grimes improving his lead position with a 6.594 at 214.04mph. The numbers are coming up shortly.

Top Fuel qualifying round #2 is underway.  Earlier today, in Round #1 of qualifying, Steve Dorn of Oregon went through the traps scoring a 6.692 at 206.13mph before veering into the retaining wall.  Dorn has been transported to a medical facility in Dallas for complete evaluation.  Top End reports tell us that at least 2 broken bones were possible although we have no official report on the extent of the injuries.  Dorn talked with Craig before he was transported in stable condition- alert and expressing his disappointment in crashing his new Team Latus H-D ride.  Qualifying resumed following DornÕs transport.

We will report any updates to SteveÕs condition as we receive them.

3:35pm More from qualifying 2nd round.

Stephen Galati-2005 AHDRA Sportsman Rookie of the Year took over the top seat in Performance Corner Super Eliminator qualifying with a 10.904-moving Kevin Barber to the 2nd spot with his earlier 10.906.

Michael Ray claimed the pole position in S $ S-124 racing with a 9.606 at 139.75mph and Robbie McCaa is now in the 2nd spot.

Dan Norlin has moved ahead of Mike Roberts in round #2 with a 10.467 at 131.14mph.  Roberts slides to the 2nd spot with a 10.470 at 128.51mph best.

In G-Squared Street Pro, Andy Simons improves with a 8.734 at 155.79mph to hold on at #1.  The pass was good enough to back up his earlier 156.30mph lap that re-sets the national record.  Simon bettered his own record-a 155.61 from Phoenix.

The Pros are still running..more coming later.  Sportsman qualifying Round #2 will resume following conclusion of ScreaminÕ Eagle Top Fuel 2nd round.

2:36pm (central time)

Updates from qualifying.  We are firing back up again after extensive oil down during sportsman qualifying.  We will run 2nd round through the S & S 124 class before jumping to Pro Qualifying round #2.  We will then pick back up with the remaining sportsmanÕs 2nd round.

2nd round of Syn3 ET qualifying brought Cleve McConnell to the top with a perfectly done .000.  Andy Horn (who by the way nets the award for most neatly completed tech information card in the tower) and Stan Sheppard grabbed matching .003Õs and HornÕs MPH puts him in the 2nd spot and Sheppard 3rd.

JP Hendrzak moves to the 4th position with his .004 best.

Sandy McMillin stills hangs in there in the top ten (of approx 50 entries) in the 7th position from her .016 in round one.

More coming soon.

1:31pm

The sportsman classes are back on the track for round #2 after the ScreaminÕ Eagle Top Fuelers wrapped up qualifying with the pole position going to Tommy Grimes and the Samson Exhaust-Ray Price Racing team.  Grimes scored a 6.600 at 223.28mph for the #1 spot.  The Romine brothers- Mike and Jack are #2 and #3 respectively with a 6.611 for Mike and a 6.722 for Jack.

Thirteen bikes make up the qualifying order so far-and that puts the bump at eight spots for now- thus leaving Doug Vancil, Jay Turner and several more front runners trying to get in the show in the next round.  (It will take a 14th entry to run a full field).

In S & S Pro Gas, Dale Raudenbush leads the pack with a 7.617 at 171.58mph and joining the competition here in Texas is Dave Feazell-who landed the #2 spot with a 7.698 at 172.56mph.

Coming off a win in Phoenix, Armon Furr scored the only other Òsix zoneÓ with a 6.930 at 186.18mph for the 2nd spot.

A lengthy track clean-up is currently underway, so stand-by for qualifying resuming with Top Fuel soon.

11:00am

Sportsman opening rounds are completed and the Pros are on deck:

Sportsman highlights:

Tripp Nobles is in the top spot early in the ScreaminÕ Eagle V-Rod Destroyer field. Nobles, coming off his win in Phoenix scored a 9.334 at 141.24mph to take the pole position.

Allen Fong was in perfect form in S & S Super Sport lap #1 with a 10.300 in the 10.30 competition for the top spot.  Champion, Julia Holliday is right behind him close enough to perfect with a 10.301 and a 10.305 gives Steve Rodgers the third spot.

Huffman-Walker-Walker makes up the top three spots in SEP (11.50) racing.  Huffman came out with an 11.502 and Charlie WalkerÕs 11.524 put him in 2nd in front of his lovely bride, EleanorÕs 11.537.

Kevin BarberÕs 10.906 will be hard to be in the Performance Corner Super Eliminator category.  Barber leads the pack after one round.

Larry Edmondson Jr. is making a name for himself in the #1 spot consistently in the early 2006 season.  Edmondson on board the Eagle Harley-Davidson ride is qualified 1st with a 9.569 at 140.65mph.

Mike Roberts-the Hot Street Champ is leading the field with an 10.470 at 128.51mph lap and Robbie McCaa sits in front of champion, Michael Ray in the S & S 124 category.  McCaaÕs 9.711 at 139.00mph gave him the top spot over RayÕs 9.736 at 138.40mph.

The Pros are underway now, and Andy Simon and Zach Johnson lead off the G2 Street Pro pairings.  Simon scored a 8.929 at a record speed of 156.30mph.  Johnson wrestled his KJ Custom ride at the launch and came away with an 9.704 at 146.32mph for the 4th spot.  Jeff King is currently in the 2nd spot with an 9.238 at 151.05mph.

Stay tuned for the results from the Pro classes following the round.

9:45am

Sportsman qualifying on the track.  The Casa Bella X-Mod group of four (so far) wrapped up the first session with Greg Kuypers of the Drag Masters gang taking the pole position with an 8.987 at 146.46mph.

From the Syn3 ET opening round, J.P. Hendrzak was quickest at the tree for a .004 #1 qualifying spot.

Perhaps the #2 spot (.016) for Sandy McMillin is most commendable in a heavyhearted situation. Sandy of Junction City, OR (who many of you know rides the 3-wheeled ET entry)-lost her husband, Jim in a tragic motorcycle accident last week here at the entrance to Texas Motorplex.

Sandy has chosen to be with her racing family this weekend and has received helping and supporting hands from her fellow racers.  Jim McMillin will be remembered in Sunday mornings Christian Motorcycle Association services here at Texas Motorplex.

Back with more from Texas later.

Good morning from Texas Motorplex and welcome to todayÕs coverage from the Rucker Performance Lone Star Nationals presented by Drag Specialties.  TodayÕs qualifying sessions are a few minutes away-with the 2006 Casa Bella X-Mod class taking the track first- followed by our normal sportsman order.  The Pros take the track for qualifying round #1 at 11:00am (central time).  Just over 270 racers teched in as we fire emÕ up here at Texas Motorplex.
