Finals Complete at Texas
Motorplex:
Half the Field Seeing
Red in the Finals at the Rucker Performance LoneStar Nationals!
Mike Romine of Sturgis,
Michigan finally gets the Screamin’ Eagle Nitro Harley win in his 3rd
consecutive final round appearance in the 04 AHDRA season. Romine’s 4.304 at 181.41 was
enough to beat local Texan, Mark Revels who smoked the tire right off the line.
Mike Lehman of Palm
Beach, FL was flexing his skills in JIMS Pro Fuel all weekend, and he took on
Jack Romine, who’s also battling the “bridesmaid syndrome” in
the finals. Lehman and Romine both
got the red-bulb, Lehman with a -.040 and Romine with a -.234, so it was Lehman
coming away with the win, and Romine finishing 2nd again.
In another red light
final, Dirk Higgins drew the bulb and Rick Maney of Phoenix, AZ ran a 7.496 at
179.90 mph for the win here in Texas.
In Kresto Pro Drag,
there were no red lights, but a MIA rider, when #1 qualifyer Scott Truett
apparently had problems with his Pro Dragster, and was unable to make the
call. Chuck Jones would rather
have a good side by side finish for a win, but he’ll gladly hold on to
this trophy and cash.
John “Jet”
Peek jetted to the finish in S & S Pro Gas with an 8.007 at 162.01mph after
newcomer, Brook McCabe was the red-light bandit in this final.
More from the tree of
red, when Champion, Cliff Dwy had his chance at Junior Pippin who was running
the numbers all weekend, but left with a -.266. Pippin had the performance advantage with or without the
tree, running an 8.367 at 152.61.
Pippin had the low E.T.
of the weekend with an 8.334 and Dwy was the fastest this weekend with a 153.42
pass. This is a pair to watch in
the 04-point’s chase.
No red light here, but a
real upset, when Travis Lummus lost to Jordan Cruz of Ft. Lauderdale, Fl. Cruz outperformed the Champion with no
help from a red bulb in the final with a 9.801 at 145.60 to Lummus’s
9.916 at 145.63.
Lummus made a 149.17 mph
record pass in yesterday’s qualifying and went into today’s
eliminations in the top qualifying spot.
In Redline Super Gas- it
was a “RedLight Super Gas” finish for Dale Tyson who handed Dave
Ostrowske the easy win.
In S & S Super
Sport, Allen Nusbaum and Dean Shields ran a clean race to the finish and it was
Nusbaum first through the trap with a 10.294 to Shield’s 10.221 in the
10.30 Index class.
Larry Guy jumped too
early in Performance Corner Super Eliminator and it was multiple class rider
Donnie Huffman who would benefit and get a 10.843 at 123.94 victory ride.
In SEP, Clay Wilwert of
Dubuque and Syn3 E.T. Champ, J.P. Hendrzak made it a “foul free”
finish with Wilwert coming out the winner.
Syn3 E.T. was also a
race on the track with Tom Ocasio of Howell, N.J. defeating Robert Miller.
More from the red-zone
when Mike Roberts jumped out early, but it was going to be Burdynski all the
way. John Burdynski ran a 10.248
at 130.92mph, record passes, no doubt, previous numbers from the weekend along
with the standard checks will determine if any backed up records will hit the
books.
Screamin’ Eagle
V-Rod was determined at the tree but without the red, when Terry Vaughn of
Phoenix, AZ grabbed the holeshot win over Richard Nallin. Tripp Nobles was the #1 qualifyer of
the weekend, but was a no-show in the semis after apparent transmission
problems.
That’s a wrap from
the finals here at Texas Motorplex.
Our concerns remain with
Bill Furr who crashed He is giving the nurses quite a fit, certainly no
surprise from the feisty Furr. He
has a collapsed lung that goes along with the broken ribs, and several
contusions. More scans and test
are being conducted from the Medical facility located in Dallas. Craig Tharpe will be there later this
evening and we will report any changes or updates to his condition.
