Good morning from The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway! Qualifying day has arrived, and gets underway at 3pm, but first we've got $15,000 to give away! The Screamin' Eagle Shootout kicks off at 12noon. Well over 100 entries!
The pre-event festivities have been a huge success, including Thursday nights AHDRA KickStart Party at Las Vegas Harley-Davidson!
AHDRA racers lined the parking lot with racebike displays and plenty of noise for the crowd. A grand finale to the night, when Steve Huff fired up his Pro Dragster with a monster burnout that caused an unplanned visit from the fire department! Guess they aren't used to that nitro smoke in the Vegas skies! Evel Kneveil showed up for his birthday celebration and lots of cool stuff from his museum, including the rocket used for the Red River Canyon jump. He was presented a 2003 Road King from Las Vegas H-D in celebration of his 64th birthday. The line went on for autographs for several hours. Also making an appearance, Chuck Zito from the HBO Series "Oz". He must have enjoyed meeting and greeting the AHDRA family of racers, as we learned later that the Hell Racing team kept him entertained until the wee hours!
Last night it was off to the HD Cafe on the Strip, where fans came by the hundreds to catch a look at the race bikes. It was a Huff-O'Hara nitro show, as both fired bikes several times each for a roaring crowd.
Kris Becker was on hand with Girl's Kick Butt Gear and bike in tow, Frank & Paula Dove brought the Championship Pro Gas bike out for the fun, and 2002 Junior Champion,Robert May fired up his junior dragster. Lots of fun was had by all.
The skies are sunny with 80 degree temps..The Shoot-Out starts 12noon..qualifying around 3pm! Back with more later from the JIMS Las Vegas Nationals!

East Coast racer, Bob Larish takes home the $12,000 check and Junior Pippin takes the $3000 second place prize in the Screamin' Eagle Performance Parts High Stakes Shootout!

We are now underway with qualifying at the JIMS Las Vegas Nationals..and the JIMS Top Fuelers are leading off qualifying with over 30 entries..should be the largest Top Fuel field of racers ever recorded!

Round Two Finally underway...
Ken Ken pulls to the line and has trouble starting..gets it started pulls to the line and lands a 6.85..he's #1 now with 20 plus left to run..Houniet scores a 6.88 and has the #2 spot..I'm staying with you live during this round..hang on for the rest of the 32 JIMS Top Fuel qualifyers..Shigematsu on the line right now..
Shigematsu takes the #1 spot with a 6.79! Kent moves to #2.

has been cut to two rounds only in all classes. We had hoped to get three in, but continued oil downs, broken bikes, causing extreme delays for clean-up, have ended those hopes! We will be back tomorrow to begin eliminations. Good afternoon from Las Vegas..we are underway with eliminations under warm,sunny skies. JIMS Top Fuel led off with Shigematsu advancing over Tracy Kile. Shigematsu gave it plenty of right left action, but recovered for the win. Brian Jernigan advanced over Bill Furr..O'Hara advances..and Houniet marches on with the quickest pass of the round. Round Two Action...Back with Round Two underway..Houniet advances with a better reaction time to advance over Brian Hall. Houniet has officially clinched the JIMS Top Fuel title, but is hoping to celebrate with a final 2002 win right here in Las Vegas. Dave O'Hara has now locked the #2 plate after getting by Tak Shigematsu in round two. Brian Jernigan has eyebrows raised with a 6.656/207.69 pass over Mike Bahnmaier..Ken Kent finds something big and advances over Russ Hildenbrand.
