Good morning from Texas Motorplex. It is just before 8am, here in Ennis, TX and the skies are getting brighter as the sun prepares to shine on us with 90-plus degree temps. Riders rolled in yesterday, and a handful this morning. So far, about twelve Screamin' Eagle Nitro Harleys, including the Champ, Ron Houniet, The Point's Leader, Vancil,The Texas Native, Mancuso and his partner-Stordeur, The Southern Son, Furr,The Marlowe-Dennis Paul triplets- Romine-
Brancaccio-Romine, plus one-Conner on the flying banana, There's Mark Cox on a flying chicken, Silcox on his Hell ride, Chicago Joe, Texan, Mark Revels, Steve Moore and thats the roster so far.

Chris Streeter is here to add marks to his point's lead in Pro Fuel. Kerrigan is not expected to compete here in Texas. That's makes the Point's leader and the New Record holder(Conner) on the roster so far along with Western Point's leader Scooter Rajkowski from Mesa, AZ!

S & S Pro Stock looks good so far, with Higgins, Bradford, Lozano, Matte and Collier in the line-up so far.

Kresto Pro Drag has nine in the line so far, with Dorn here looking for a thrid win, and Chuck Jones vying to maintain the point's lead and Larkins looking for his first national win.

Frank Dove is back in action and here to compete in Hayes Jewelers Pro Gas along with Bad Dave Boss and more.

A few notes on a very early Saturday morning!
A drivers meeting is set to begin at 8:30am, followed by a meeting with Craig Tharpe and Junior members and interested parties-to discuss the unexpected, devastating news delivered to everyone late Wednesday. AHDRA was informed that the Juniors had to be pulled from competition, after it was determined the class was not approved by NHRA, therefore leaving them uninsured. The meeting is planned to discuss the issue and hopefully set in motion plans to present the issue to the necessary persons and seek reinstatement of the junior program.
A very disappointing situation for everyone involved, and we are all hoping there is something that we can work together on to resolve the matter.

Qualifying for Sportsman classes are set to begin around 9:00am, and we'll be back with updates from Round One following the completed action.


It's Hot in Texas..but not too hot for a "Furr". Round One is complete and there was plenty of struggling in the round. In Nitro Harley-Furr prepared well for the Texas Heat, coming off the trailer with a 6.63 at 208.91mph and another South Carolina entry-Steve Moore is in the #3 spot with a 6.883 and the only other six in Top Fuel-from Drums Brancaccio who is #2 with a 6.879.
Mark Conner and the Flyin Banana took control in Pro Fuel with a 6.86, while others struggled.
The results from Pro's are coming right up.

The track is way hot and some are adjusting to the heat- others not so well. and Here's a few quotes Nina Henderson picked up in the pits and shared-

Doug Vancil
Round Two was pretty good. The track is slimy and everyone is dealing it. I had to get out out of the throttle a couple of times. That was a good run for us.

Drums-For some reason, I'm moving around on the bike. It's making me come back out of the throttle a little bit. We're not sure about those early run numbers. Right at the end of the run, I'm wide open again, so I'm a little perturbed with myself. I thought is would run better that pass, but it didn't.

Patty Romine about Mike-
When the front end touched down it went toward the wall so he backed out of it. He was on a good pass, so we're looking forward to next round.

Jack-
On the first pass we went out and shook the tire and smoked it. So we just detuned the motorcycle and it went right down through there. Second round it shook the tire and I shifted too early. If I could have had less tire shake and I shifted it into high gear and not smoked the tire. With this run if we can get rid of the tire shake, it will run real good.

Ron Houniet-
Spinning the tire. "Normally I know how to tune for this. Maybe the tire is finished. Take some clutch out and some power and try to get down the track!

Furr
We just tried to make sure that we got down the track and ran a good number. Second round I forgot to turn the computer on. We made a couple of small changes and apparently one of them wasn't in the right direction.
By the seat of our pants, we'll try to correct that.

Elimination Day in Texas Heat!
Good morning from Texas Motorplex. There is certainly no rain to contend with here, but it is approaching 87 degrees as we near 10:00am. Yesterday's qualifying proved to be challenging with the track temps for many, and others were able to adjust well. Depends on who you ask. No problem for Furr who had a consistent day in Screamin' Eagle Nitro Harley qualifying finishing in the #1 spot with a 6.633. Vancil turned things around by the last session, finishing in the #2 spot and the top MPH of the day at 212.25.
Jack Romine, Houniet, Mancuso. Brancaccio, Moore and Mike Romine all finished in the six second zone. This morning track officials made prep adjustments before several took the track for test runs.
Other notes from Saturday- following unexpected mechanical trouble for the Tilley HD V-Rod piloted by Tripp Nobles, the repairs between races seem to be going nicely, as Nobles landed the #1 spot with a 9.944 in V-Rod competition.
Travis Lummus says his plan is NOT to red light in today's eliminations, after the early jump in Denver cost him the win to Randy Borho. Borho is here this weekend with a third spot finish (9.742), Nicholas Gonatas holds the #2 spot (9.448) and Lummus finished first with a 9.379.

Cliff Dwy and Darren Mauldin battled it out in the finals in Denver. They are both here this weekend and in the #2 and #3 spot, but it's Kurt Matte who pulled out the pole position yesterday with a 8.486.

Frank Dove returns with his big smile and plenty of help from his lovely bride, Paula and the F & P (Frank & Paula) Motorsports team is the #1Pro Gas qualifyer with a 8.027.
Bad Dave Boss, Stan Sheppard and Fred Love make up the remaining four respectively.

Steve Dorn made a full "Black Attack" in Kresto Pro Drag with his 7.399 pass landing him the #1 spot. Dale Nungesser is back this weekend in the competition in the #2 spot. Dorn and Nungesser were the final pair at last week's Denver event. Ken Wright and Chuck Jones (point's leader) are here to pulling up the three and four spots. This class should produce good side-by-side action today.

Dirk Higgins is full of determination and power in the S & S Pro Stock field, finishing in the #1 spot (7.593) fresh off a victory in Denver. Bradford was out in the test session this morning and hoping for a trip to the finals.

Mark Conner added Texas hometown flavor in JIMS Pro Fuel with a 6.868 at 197.45 mph, and Chris Streeter is sturggling a bit, but may have it turned around for today's eliminations.

Round One Nearly complete..the Sportsman rounds are running. Girl watchers...Wanda Poff was the #1 qualifyer in Nonpareil Super Sport and she is making her way through rounds today in two classes! Wanda sends a special thanks to S & S for helping her get last minute repairs made last night.The York, PA rider has scored two event wins so far, making it a three event streak of ladies in the winners circle ...Wanda Poff..Susie Wevadau and Julia Holliday!

More Heated News from Texas -Round Two Complete!
Furr advances on the bye, but doesn't hold back with 6.683 single run..Houniet gets the holeshot on Mancuso, and the Canadian says he's got something for Furr in the next round..the Romine brothers will face off in round three and Mike Romine sends a message to Mom..Remember, I'm the oldest! The eldest Romine had Vancil in Round Two, and after both lost power, it was a coast to the win light.

Houniet wasn't kidding when he said he had something for Bill..Houniet smoked the tire right off the launch and it looked like a easy win for Furr, but Houniet did not give up and pulled out the win over Furr.

Everything's Bigger in Texas!!
That's what we've heard anyway...and "Big Brother" Mike Romine wins over Canadian Ron Houniet in Screamin' Eagle Nitro Harley...Bradford wins Pro Stock...Conner over Streeter in JIMS Pro Fuel...Cliff Dwy prevailed in Joker Machine Pro Modified..Dorn again in Kresto Pro Drag...Frank Dove takes the Hayes Jewelers Pro Gas trophy..Lummus waits for the light this time and wins over Borho in Rivera Primo Street Pro..Dan Degood takes home double wins for a first time..and lots more for a finish at the American IronHorse Nitro Nationals! That's a wrap from a weekend of action on the track at Texas Motorplex. The racing was good despite the heat, but not much support in the stands.
A disappointing turn-out for the first time appearance in Texas, but sponsor support from American Ironhorse and a revised plan for next year should make this a good event for 2004.
