Back From Pacific Raceways-
We are up and running here in the tower-after connection problems, kept us from sharing our updates. They should have us all fixed and ready to go so here’s some of the news from Seattle!
Best News First..It’s picture-perfect weather. Sunny skies and low 80 temps. A healthy crowd, that is notably up from last year’s qualifying onlookers.
Pit news- I haven’t had a lot of time to visit- but a little scoop gathered so far..came from O’Hara Racing. Yep, Dave O’Hara and the Hell Racing team are making a season debut here in Seattle breaking in a brand new machine. “We’re hoping for an 8-second pass”, was O’Hara crewman, Steve McKay’s humorous comment. “It’s all new stuff, so we just need to get some passes in. We are really here mostly to help out Wayne Eastcott, who’s running all Dave’s (O’Hara) stuff.” While O’Hara had a rough go at it in round one, and having to shut it off in the box, Eastcott faired well with a #3 qualifying position with a 7.182 pass.
Jake Silcox was fired and ready for a round one blast down the track, when a “blast” is what came from the Top Fuel ride in the box. An apparent blown motor, there’s no word, if he’ll have repairs ready for Round two, and no sign of him in the staging lanes so as the bikes are making their way down for round two.
A light turnout in several classes of competition, including, S & S Pro Stock, which has only a pair on the roster so far. And the East Coasters evidently dominate the Dragmasters Hot Street field, as only one entry has been made in the class so far. Hey Willie..catch a plane..you still have 2 more rounds to go!
Only a couple of Rivera-Primo Street Pro entries also, as the Champ, and point’s leader, Travis Lummus, headed back home to North Carolina following the Texas event. Oregon riders, Randy Borho and Verl Smitty Smith are here to battle it out for the trophy and numbers on the point’s board.
The Nitro Harleys are back on the track-and we’ll be back with more and numbers from Round Two shortly.
Round Two Complete and one more to go for the show!

Elimination Day!!
Good Morning from Pacific Raceways. Cooler temperatures kicked off this mornings test and tune after the rising temps yesterday, brought the track reading to 132 degrees.
Racers are hoping for better results with the reduced heat factor today.
A few notes from yesterday’s qualifying wrap up-
Arlie Becker says he had a great day! (He was even smiling) Becker says he was out here with two new bikes, including the blower bike, and although he finished on the bottom side of the ladder in both Top Fuel and Pro Drag, he had a great time, and says he didn’t break anything. He also noted that the shirt he was sporting in yesterday’s qualifying was given to him by racing icon, Pete Hill. Becker says this shirt is probably older than any of these guys out here!
Seattle local, Steve Huff says he’s pleased with his #2 spot in the Screamin’ Eagle Nitro Harley field. “It’s real hot, and we’re not running real fast, but it’s okay”, he added.
“Everybody else is in the same situation”. Huff says the heat yesterday was really rare here. “I should have brought the umbrella girls”!
No umbrella girls, but Chris Gartman came equipped with “Umbrella Boys” to help fend off the beaming sun and heat in yesterday’s qualifying. “They are kind of stinky and sweaty, but they are getting the job done”! Gartman, pilots the only rear-engine bike in fuel competition and finished in the #2 spot in Pro Fuel competition, behind Steve Chrome’s #1 7.212 finish.
In Kresto Pro Drag, Ken Wright and the Smoked Monkeys team, encountered motor problems in qualifying, and were hoping for the best. Wright finished in the #5 spot.
Steve Dorn and the All American Cycle ride, headed by Mark Elam. The Black Attack Pro Drag entry set 1/8th mile records in the sweltering heat of Texas last week (154.85mph), and so far here in Seattle, he’s scored more 1/8th mile marks for the books, with a 4.648 E.T. and a 155.78mph pass. Dorn came out strong in round one qualifying with a 7.306 record pass, but so far as not backed it up.
Congratulations to Becky Froehling! Froehling received her Pro Gas license in yesterday’s qualifying after making the grade for officials. Froehling, (Toni’s wife) says she is happy to be racing. “We had a few gremlins to work out with the bike, which the guys attributed to the pilot”, she explained. “But it turns out my mechanical complaints were valid, including clutch problems, so we are getting it all ironed out”.
Ron Houniet says he always saves the best for last, after struggling in the first two rounds of yesterday’s qualifying session. In the final round, he was able to move in the #3 spot with a 7.045. Houniet says he’s counting on lane choice and cooler temperatures to work to his advantage today. The left lane is the obvious place to be here at Pacific Raceways, but Ken Kent said it doesn’t matter to him! Kent says, “Yeah, it’s hot, but it doesn’t bother me. We’re all on the same track”. Kent did add that Doug Vancil gave a small crash course on reading his computer data. “I don’t think the thing has worked in two years, but that guy starts pointing out how I did this and that on the screen. He’s a smart little guy”.
That’s a few notes from Seattle. Todays eliminations will begin on a later schedule to allow for all the pre-event activities, including Children’s Ride 8! The ride should have a 1000-plus rolling in at 11:00am led by Robbie Knivel, Dan Haggarty and Seahawk Defense tackle, Chad Eaton. Once the ride is in and parked, a performance by the Seattle Cossacks will begin, live music, opening ceremonies and then we’re racing!!
Stay tuned for updates on today’s Kresto Pacific Nationals presented by Eastside Harley-Davidson!
Round one complete and #2 starting now!
Huge crowd on hand, and a fantastic sight when over one thousand riders filled the return road for Childrens Ride 8.
Back with more later.

Seattle Finish Brings Crowd To Thier Feet!
The crowd cheered til the end..as Vancil and Houniet provided a dynamite run to the finish line! Houniet had the better lane advantage, but moments before the final, Vancil said he was looking for a good race despite it was basically a one lane track. A good race for sure, as Vancil had the better reaction time and the holeshot would win the race with Houniets 6.764 and a 6.766 for Vancil.
Steve Dorn wrapped up a 4 in a row sweep with a win in Kresto Pro Drag, and Karen Wagner adds another win for the girls. Plenty of action here today and a fantastic weekend in Seattle!
Here's the numbers!
