Final Show of the Season Set To Go at the JIMS Las Vegas Nationals
AHDRA is here and ready for an exciting grand finale at The Strip. It's Friday morning, the weather is warm and sunny with expected temps in high 80' to low 90's.
The gates will open to park the racers at 2pm, with an impressive line-up already forming at 9:00am. Nearly 200 racers on the pre-registration roster , including 25 Nitro Harley entries.
The crowds are expected to be plenty this year as the Nevada State H.O.G. Rally participants started arriving at host hotel, Sam's Town, which is now SOLD OUT with Harley fans and racers!
Orangeburg Cycles, Bill Furr kicked off the excitement yesterday morning with an appearance on local radio station, KOMP and the talent critics say, he may have found his second calling behind the microphone.
Tonight, there's more nitro-teasing for the fans when the JIMS Rolling Bones party gets underway at the Harley-Davidson Cafe on Las Vegas Blvd. AHDRA racers will be showcasing their bikes and fill the Blvd. with plenty of fire and smoke and of course the smell of nitro!
Test and Tune will also be happening at the Dragstrip at 6pm.
Saturday morning, a first round qualifying session in all classes is set for 9:00am, followed by the Screamin' Eagle High Stakes Shootout at 12noon.
It's back to quaifying at 3:00pm!
Any bets on the Shoot-Out winner?? Oh yeah..can't do that! There's $12,000 grand up for grabs for the winner and a generous $3,000 for 2nd place. So far, only 100 pre-entered. Somebody's going to have some fun in Vegas tomorrow night with 12 grand!
That's an update from Vegas. The show starts tomorrow. Stay tune for all the action!

The Screamin' Eagle High Stakes Shoot-Out is underway with a time trial run for each participant and then it's a battle to the finish for $12,000!
125 entries at last count.

Notes from Round One and other activities here at the JIMS Las Vegas Nationals. Round one went off fairly smooth, with the exception of a few mechanical problems and normal down times. A special guest enjoying the action here at The Strip, Mr. John Force.
Force is on hand as his daughter is running passes for a alcohol license.
I witnessed a 5.99 at 247mph from her so far, so looks like she's on the road to that license.
Following the first round today, a wedding took place on the starting line with Gerald Sutinen and Sharon Gleason of Ann Arbor Michigan chose the AHDRA event as the place for nuptials. John Force joined the wedding party on the starting line and the couple road off into the sunset down the quarter mile aisle of matrimony.

ESPN2 is here this weekend to catch all the action for Inside Drag Racing and we will have updates from the Shoot-Out and all the action from Round Two set to begin around 3:30pm right here on ahdra.com.

Latest in the $15,000 Shoot-Out!
The field out of over 100 entries for the

Lummus advanced on the bye , Susie Wevodau red-lit against Mantz, Thiem took out Bradford and Norlin advanced over York.
Next it was Lummus going out after a win from Wayne Mantz and Norlin advanced over Thiem.
The final two....
Mantz and Norlin and it was Dan Norlin winning the $12,000 grand prize and Mantz gets a cool $3,000.

Still going with Nitro Harley..another oil down making for the longest Top Fuel session in history. It's 9:30pm and at least a dozen left to go..Vancil yet to run and still holds the #1 spot..Bill Furr ran a 6.520 and currently sits in third position with his 213mph pass- the top speed of the day so far. Once the track is cleared, we'll be back with Top Fuel order followed by final rounds in Sportsman categories.

Things have wrapped up later than expected, but a safe day was most important to report. After broken belts..oil downs and a connection failure on my tower computer which lost all my updates during the final round..it's finally a wrap on qualifying. I'll let the numbers tell the story instead of re-typing the commentary.
Good night from The Strip.

Elimination Day at The Strip!
Good morning from the JIMS Las Vegas Nationals! We've all had a few ours sleep, but we are back, the pits are alive and well, after a long day of qualifying. The total count not in yet on entries, but AHDRA President, Craig Tharpe says it was no doubt a record setting day in the Nitro Harley world, as at least 170 passes were made by nitro bikes yesterday at the Strip. A monster field of entries in Screamin' Eagle Nitro Harley along with JIMS Pro Fuel and Kresto Pro Drag and it was truly a show to see.
The delays were unavoidable with that many entries, as bikes are expected to break belts and suffer mechanical problems, but those oil downs get grueling in the late hours.
Everyone is set to go for what is expected to be one of the most competitive elimination days of the year.
In Screamin' Eagle Nitro Harley, Doug Vancil saved his best for last with his 6.437 and Mike Romine came out and grabbed the #2 spot from teammate, Drums Brancaccio with his 6.472 at 214.66mph late night pass. Ron Houniet is breathing a sigh of relief after entering the final round on the wrong side of the bump, but Houniet got in with a 6.811. "Not as well as we would like to be doing", Houniet commented, "but we're glad to get in the show".
Tii Tharpe came from North Carolina to compete with the best of the best, after proving he's capable with his six second-200mph passes in his "rookie" year in the Top Fuel ranks. Tharpe was part of the exhibition at the Screamin' Eagle Nitro Harleys NHRA appearance in Dallas, and put Mark Cox out of the field, before Steve Stordeur ended his day in eliminations. After Tharpe too was out of the field after two rounds, he made a respectable come back in the final round with his 6.702, getting him in the #7 spot.
The Swedens are feeling good too, after more problems in Test and Tune left them thrashing in the pits on quaifying day, Karling and the team came out with a 6.606 on the Super Charged 113ci machine, rattling the grandstands with the groundpounding pass.

In JIMS Pro Fuel Conner is at the head of the class on the round order followed by Mike Lehman with John Martin in 3rd. Pat Fenderson of Twin Falls was completing a series of test in order to be officially licensed, and after getting in the field, Kristine Becker ended up in the #9 spot.
However, Keith Ruxton has announced this morning he is broke and will not show for first round, which puts Becker in as the alternate.
Other notes..
Jamie McNaughton bumped Nobles out of this #1 spot in Screamin' Eagle V-Rod, and this could set up a great side by side finish if they meet in the finals as forecasted.
In Nonpareil Super Sport, there's at least a four way run for the National Championship with 3 out of the 4 in contention being females. Karen Wagner leads the points, but Susie Wevodau and Wanda Poff aren't out yet, and it could all be interupted by Dave Ostrowske depending on the outcome today. Wevodau so far has the qualifying advantage with her #2 spot, while Wagner finished in the #4 spot, Poff in at #11 and Ostrowske sits in the 14th spot. Should one of the ladies finish with the Championship, it will be our first lady National Champion in AHDRA racing.
Steve Dorn hasn't stopped smiling after his record run yesterday (7.239) at 178.40mph. He'll need to back it up, but he also reported he'll be after some 1/8th mile marks to back up today also.
That's a quick update from here, the ESPN2 crew is here for a full coverage show on the JIMS Las Vegas Nationals for an airdate to be announced later.
All the action from Eliminations will be coming at you following a excitement filled first round!

Let The Show Begin!
