6.41!
Check out these semi final match ups coming later on today
in Top Fuel:
Jay Turner will take on Tak
Shigematsu and it will be Vancil against the 2-time champ-Mike Romine!!
(1st round)Wow- The Top fuel riders had a better
start on the track today with a string of 6.40Õs-
Vancil came out of the round with the low ET of the weekend
so far- 6.412 and although Grimes lost the round against Vancil with a 6.474,
he did land the top speed so far at 214mph.
Alternates were in the round on three separate occasions.
Brook McCabe reported in broke and Sam White came in, but
lost to Jay Turner who was flyinÕ with a 6.43.
Jack Romine came in for Tracy Kile and lost to Dean Comunal.

will take on Tak Shigematsu in round #2.
Bill Furr, Mike Romine advanced as well and exciting round
two is on tap!!
The happenings in the tower have been just as exciting with
alternate insertions- a double foul infraction in Pro Stock..a re-run coming in

going back to those duties and turning things over to Stephanie to report the
numbers on the ladder pages. IÕll
check back in with any breaking news and delays!

Southern Nationals! We are
just wrapping up a few early morning rounds of sportsman eliminations in
preparation for dayÕs show opener at 12:30pm.

( This morning we are witnessing the seriousness of the
south Georgia wildfires as the wind direction has sent a cloud of smoke
throughout the area despite the 250 mile distance away).
Stay tuned for todayÕs hourly
results on the elimination page for your favorite class and we will check back
here with any breaking news or reports of delays.
Qualifying Day –Atlanta Dragway

elimination rounds and opening ceremonies at 12:30pm! Good night from GeorgiaÕs House of Speed.
Sportsman Final Rounds:
Keith Riddell betters FensickÕs 9.704 with a 9.703 for the
#1 spot in Super Gas.
Bruce Croneberger is the #1 qualifyer in Hot Street with a
10.075.
Chip Sutinen qualifies #1 with a 11.506 in SEP- his 2nd
time on the pole this season.
L.E. Tonglet hangs on for yet another #1 position in
Destroyer qualifying.
Jimmy McMillan hangs on with his .005 in ET for the #1 spot,
and Chip Sutinen came close to having a double #1 finish today after a .007 put
him in the #2 spot in the field of 68 bikes competing in the class.
Mike Roberts chops the record number in SSC124 from a 9.30,
to a 9.29 and in the final round he lays down a 9.15!! Needless to say, he is your #1
qualifyer.
Bruce Chandler held on to his perfect 10.300 all day in
Super Sport, but Gary DeGrange was bumped from the #2 spot he held with a
10.307 by David DoremusÕs 10.305.
Lou Gerencer kept the #1 spot in V-Rod with Jim Wise taking
the 2nd spot. Larry
Edmondson is 3rd with a matching 9.613 and Robert McConnell is 4th. Jamie McNaughton was on site, but
apparently reached tech after his class had completed the final session.
Top Fuel
Jay Turner takes the double qualifying positions with his
Top Fuel and Pro Fuel stellar performances today! TurnerÕs Top Fuel best of the day was 6.49 at 212mph.
The champ, Mike Romine improved and took the #2 spot with a
6.55 at 211mph and the former leader from round one, Stordeur is 3rd
with a 6.55 at 204mph.
Rookie fueler Joey Sternotti has plenty to be proud of with
a #4 spot in a field of heavy-hitters.
SternottiÕs best of the day was a 6.57 at 205mph.
Tak Shigematsu and Doug Vancil both improved in the final
round and take the 5th and 6th spots and Bill Furr had
problems in his final lap, but is secure in the #7 spot.
Tracy Kile will
finish the day 8th and Dean Comunal running his first event of the
season takes the 9th spot with a 6.77 best.
Steve Dorn is currently 10th with a 6.87, but may
choose to go for better. Dorn was
paired with Tommy Grimes in the 2nd round, and after Grimes crossed
into DornÕs lane, it gives Dorn an automatic re-run option. No word yet on DornÕs decision on the
re-run, but should it happen, we will revise the order accordingly if
necessary.
Grimes recovered from the round two DQ nicely and after
being at the bottom of the pack and outside of the field, he rebounds in the
final pass of the day with a clean 6.90 at 180mph and finishes in the 11th
spot.
Robert Stewart is here on the Master Performance (Jimmy
McClure ride) and he has a respectable day with a 6.92 best for the 12th
position.
Top Fuel points leader, Drums Brancaccio is 13th
with a 6.94 to round out the six second zone qualifiers.
Bob Malloy, Phil Schmidt and Brook McCabe make up the final
available spots and McCabeÕs mechanical misfortune may be a gain for Sam White
who is out of the field in the #17 spot.
McCabe who was in pursuit of his TF license was able to pass the test,
but has reported in broke. It
looks like he will be out of the show tomorrow and Sam White will be the first
alternate.
Jack Romine also missed out on
the show after smoking the tire hard all day and Kevin Boyer finishes out the
pack in the #19 spot.
6:00pm
Final qualifying interrupted during Top Fuel final round for
starting line oil down. We will
resume after the clean up and see if Jay Turner can hold the lead spot to give
him double pole positions here at Atlanta Dragway!
Pro Stock
Party with Pippin..indeed-that Ōs later this evening when he
puts on his big feed in the pits and heÕll have plenty to celebrate after
taking the top spot in the Pro Stock field with a 8.16 at 160mph and moving Krenik
(who will miss the chance for double #1 spots) to the #2 position. Pippin struggled in the opening pair of
rounds and finds his tune in the final lap of the day.
Pro Drag- Rick Moore finishes the day in the top spot with a
7.751 at 151mph and Pro Drag rookie at 71-years-old is 2nd in the
field with a 7.939 at 164mph.

and Top Fuel!
Douglas Horne brings out his best in the final round with a
6.82 at 199mph and the former leader-Armon Furr is now 3rd with a
6.867 at 199mph. Breckenridge,

respectively with six second passes of their own!

Feazell and Pippin battle it out in the final round for pole
position- both riders improve and it was Feazell with the best at the end of
the day- 7.28 at 182mph for #1 position to a 7.31 at 183 best from Pippin for
the 2nd spot.

No sooner did I mention KrenikÕs
round two numbers and he takes off on a ¼ mile blast in the 3rd
and final round for yet another record in the Pro Mod category- this time itÕs
a 8.78
Street Pro
Danny Worth saves the best for last- 3rd timeÕs
the charmÉan 8.92 at 153mph gives him the top spot in Street Pro. Lummus doesnÕt improve and slides to
the #2 spot while Zach Johnson runs his best of the day for the 3rd
spot with a 9.11.
5:00pm
The ProÕs are coming up very shortly to close out their
qualifying day. One note from
round two that I missed in Pro Mod..Greg Krenik backs up his new ET
record. Krenik racing bracket
style ran a record 8.804 in the opening round and backs it up with a 8.809 in
round two. HeÕs also holding
the top spot after two rounds in Pro Stock.
